Shock, compromise, disaster, or Iga Świątek with Polish eyes

Iga Świątek ended with Roland Garros 2025 in the semi -final. “The Queen of Paris” was dethroned by Aryna Sabalenka. Was the end of the world just?
Of course it did not occur. On the contrary, the tennis ball is still in the game.
She came to the capital of France, Iga Świątek as a defender of the title, considered the best specialist in playing on earth courts, in a word – you could hope for the final success of the Polish woman. So much optimism. Really Christmas since the beginning of the 2025 season revolves around reaching for the final victory in subsequent tournaments, but more often good matches intertwined completely colorless. It was enough to look at the last straight before Roland Garros 2025. In Madrid, Świątek reached the semi -finals, where she received a strict lesson from Coco Gauff. In fact, the American did not have to do much, because it was the Polish woman who was a shred of nerves and she did not give herself a chance for success.
Later, the time came to Rome, where Świątek defended the championship title. Instead of building morale before leaving for Paris, it ended at the third round and an unexpected defeat with Danielle Collins. A lot can be said about the American, especially remembering her controversial behavior during the Olympic tournament. But Collins is not an outstanding player on Mączka. The American, however, pressed Świątek and closed her mouth to the optimists announcing the end of the Polish crisis. None of these things.
Iga Świątek in Roland Garros regained joy. Has the right to her
The meter of the lack of winning tournaments at the Polish woman is beating for a long time to get a circle in Paris. Roland Garros 2024 – it was during the Grand Slam struggle for the last time the cup was erected after the final. Ba, now even the participation in the final at the Polish woman is not so obvious. Several times it was very close, such as during the Australian Open (semi -final) or … as it turned out, this year’s Roland Garros. But there were, most often two key steps, in the past performed easily. We have forgotten about this ease a long time ago, although we have to give worldly competition that she has tried a lot to lose her patent for winning.
What did this year’s Paris bring? Joy, though with a bitter end, because it is difficult to write a more hard landing, as with a 0: 6 result in the last set of the semi -final. However, Świątek was able to overcome problems several times that she simply did not cope with in recent months. Unscrewing the result with Jelena Rybakina with 1: 6 and 0: 2, strengthening the advantage over Elina Switolina in the quarter -finals, or even what was the long fragments against Sabalenka. It pretended because the Belarusian can be liked or not, but she had this semi -final in hand. The Polish woman could only get her skin, trying to cheat what happened at the end. However, there is nothing to be offended, because Sabalenka – here again, words of appreciation – there is a step before the rest of the tennis world. The leader of the WTA ranking has reliably earned it, now not being one format, but much better than when less than two years chased for Świątek.
The semi -final with Sabalenka was, moreover, for a Polish woman the perfect summary of what is already – I hope so – behind her. The first set, started from 1: 4, and although the game itself seemed not to be so bad, there were plenty of emotions taking over above the level. The Polish woman, however, did not stop believing in the success of the mission, going out 5: 4, to then lose a tie-break. Another set? Hope for the future, i.e. Iga in a stable edition, regardless of what the opponent plays. As a result, 6: 4 and won a chance for the next, fourth in a row (!) Final in Paris.
And finally, what critics like the most. Shock, compromise, disaster – that is, the movement of Polish radicalists waiting for the skeleton of Christmas. There is no case that I pulled out this tragicomic sequence of terms for the title. Being a journalist, I know well what to read best. It is brutal, incomprehensible, but also fully repeatable among the majority. Even if, recently, this is a fashionable term, this mentioned majority with different thinking goes “to razor blades”. Because she can give convicts loudly and harmfully. Unfortunately, there is a strong Polish element in this.
I apologize to everyone offended, but we are like that.
Fortunately, not everyone, but still.
0: 6 in just over 20 minutes of Christmas with Sabalenka. Traditionally, there will be those who see here “shock, compromise, disaster.” In my eye, however, the truth is that Sabalenka pulled out everything she had the best. And as I mentioned, regardless of whether Świątek would make two or three mistakes less, nothing would change. The more that the Belarusian in this set did not make a mistake even once. What best shows how exemplary this set was performed by the best tennis player in the world.
However, Świątek in Paris won much more than a place in the semi -final. The “shock, compromise, catastrophe” movement, of course, has already reminded that the Polish woman after Roland Garros 2025 would not be in the fifth but seventh place in the WTA ranking. Really, shocking, compromising, catastrophic …
So what did Iga win? I think that the Polish woman regained the joy of the game she needed, or in other words – which she lost during the struggle between expectations and the sports form in the current season. Świątek will not be a dominator, at least not here, not now, certainly not this year. Who knows, maybe at all. But if the RG 2025 was to be groundbreaking, I think it was. Because Świątek proved to herself and others that even with the sensational Sabalenka you can play two hard, even sets. Adding some other arguments from the last, just over a week of playing in Paris. It will be the foundation for the rest of the season, I strongly believe in it.
And I will worry about those who propose that it will not be better anymore. Even ranking, the Polish woman did not have many opportunities to perform in the second part of 2024. And this will work a plus in the ranking context, because I am calm about the solidity of Christmas. Maybe it will be less shocking, what is more, it will be without compromise, we will even put the disaster onto the shelf. However, the Polish woman will exercise the right to joy in tennis and share it many times with her compatriots and compatriots. Even with this radical, title movement.
It’s hard, let them also have!
