She kicked Iga Świątek out of Wimbledon. This happened later

Alexandra Eala is the author of a really great result, in the context of her career, but also the course of this year’s Grand Slam tournament in London. Wimbledon 2026 had to say goodbye to the defending champion, Iga Świątek, already in the third round. Polish fans certainly didn’t imagine their favorite’s return to Wimbledon. Świątek herself is probably very disappointed with this turn in the context of Wimbledon.

And as the future showed, representative Filip did not manage to advance to the next level during the legendary tournament. Eala was defeated by Jasmine Paolini in the fourth round of singles.

The Filipina should move up to 28th place in the latest WTA rankings. This is still lower than, for example, Maja Chwalińska, the finalist of Roland Garros 2026. Eala, at the age of 21, achieved success in her life. Moreover, she became the first tennis player from the Philippines who managed to advance to the third and then the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament.

However, at the stage of 1/8 finals, it turned out that there was a rival waiting for her, who found a way to defeat the brilliantly playing tennis player. It was the Italian Jasmine Paolini. The player, who has Polish roots, eliminated the Filipina after a three-set fight.

However, Eala received well-deserved applause from the London audience. It was difficult not to appreciate what the athlete had achieved – she was probably not among the favorites among tennis experts. Eala lost to a higher-ranked rival, as Paolini is number 13 at this year’s event in London. However, the meeting itself was exciting and lasted almost two and a half hours (2:23 to be exact). The Italian eventually won 6:4, 4:6 and 6:3.

Who will Paolini play against in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2026? The Italian’s rival will be Marta Kostiuk. Świątek therefore missed the opportunity to… take revenge for the loss in the fourth round of this year’s Roland Garros. It was the Ukrainian who turned out to be better than the Pole, causing a big surprise in the competition with Świątek, who feels exceptionally well in the Parisian reality.

Let us add that after Wimbledon 2026, the Polish player will most likely drop to 6th place in the WTA ranking.
