Serious surgery of the Olympic runner-up. A volleyball player’s entry straight from the hospital
As planned, Paweł Zatorski has already undergone surgery. The libero of the Polish national team and Asseco Resovia Rzeszów shared the latest news about his health.
Paweł Zatorski played his last appearance in the 2024/25 season during an away match against Nowak-Mosty MKS Będzin. Asseco Resovia Rzeszów won 3-1, and the experienced libero appeared on the pitch for just a moment to fulfill the regulatory requirements related to the later so-called medical transfer.
Paweł Zatorski after surgery. Good news from the Olympic runner-up
During the Olympic tournament, the Polish libero was injured during the semi-final thriller against the Americans (3:2). The Poles finally won a pass to the final, and Zatorski managed to play both the entire match against the USA and take up the challenge in the gold medal game against the French (0:3).
However, it was no secret that Zatorski played the Olympic final with a strong block, which relieved the pain but did not improve the health condition of the experienced libero. However, the Pole managed to return to the game after the Olympics, already as a club player, making further appearances for Asseco Resovia Rzeszów. Unfortunately, while Zatorski had a shoulder problem during the Olympic tournament, now he has an injured hip. This is a problem that “Zati” was struggling with even before leaving for Paris.
On Friday (December 13), Zatorski underwent surgery. After the successful procedure, he shared the information with fans via social media.
– I’m alive and doing quite well. They just woke me up a moment ago, but knowing how many people believe in me, I would almost like to get on the pitch right now. Thank you for the enormous support directed towards me – wrote the Olympic vice-champion on Instagram.
PlusLiga: Asseco Resovia Rzeszów officially with a new libero
Zatorski will recover peacefully. However, in Rzeszów it was necessary to find a replacement, or more precisely, support for Michał Potera – the only libero in the team’s squad – in Zatorski’s absence. Asseco Resovia announced that it had signed Dawid Ogórek to replace “Zati”.
An experienced libero is to support the team, thanks to which training units can normally take place – with a full team – but also challenges for points, either in PlusLiga or European cups.
