Serious changes in the Tatras. All because of fatal accidents

Orla Perć w Tatrach

TOPR wants to make changes to one of the most popular Tatra trails. There were fatal accidents in the past.

Will the route Orla Percia change? Everything indicates that the historic trail may soon undergo a metamorphosis. The Tatra Volunteer Ambulance Service turned to the authorities of the Tatra National Park with a request to set an alternative route with bypassing the grenade region. “Erosion is progressing there and perhaps a change in the course in some places will make it safer,” says TOPR head Jan Krzysztof in an interview with Gazeta Wyborcza.

Orla Perć will not be the same anymore

Orla Perć, widely considered the most difficult and dangerous trail in the High Tatras, may soon wait for changes that will make it slightly less risky for climbers. According to Gazeta Wyborcza, TOPR came out with an offer of improvements in the route. “The challenge at Orla Percia is the Grenady region, where fatal accidents have recently happened. We are talking about it with the Tatra National Park. We will, perhaps, wanted to lead this trail a little differently” – explains Jan Krzysztof’s head of the Volunteer Ambulance. The reason is to be erosion progressing here.

Fatal accidents in the past

In total, about 150 people have already died in the Orla Percia region. The queues that are formed there at the peak of the season do not help. The traffic is large, and the trail has been one -sided from 2007 on the section from Zawrat to Kozi Wierch. In the past, there were ideas to install Via Ferrata security with a permanent rope, but this could only attract more crowds of tourists with not very experience in high mountains.

A lot of facilities have already been installed at Orla Percia, which improved the safety of climbers. We are talking here, among others About the famous ladder over Kozia Pass, which was replaced with a newer model two years ago.
