Again, Tauron Arena in Krakow, again the final playing for Tauron Polish Cup. Interestingly, the news about the transfer of Wilfredo Leon aroused the sensation a year ago.

A lot of analogies can be found for what took place 12 months with a light hook, in terms of volleyball, in the capital of Lesser Poland. Again, the four best teams in the Tauron Arena in the game for the National Cup will meet. What’s more, a club from Lublin and Jastrzębie-Zdrój will play in the semi-final. However, before on March 2, 2024, playing began, a transfer bomb fat.

Suddenly it turned out that the MVP of the 2023 European championship finals for Poland, Wilfredo Leon could go to PlusLiga. The undisputed star of the world volleyball, a player whose number of titles cannot be fit in one text.

Earlier, there were unofficial rumors suggesting that the host could move from the Apennine Peninsula to Zawiercie or Warsaw. The Rzeszów was also broken for a while, but mainly through the prism of the traditional, substantial Asseco Resovia budget.

However, it turned out that according to Polsat Sport journalists, leading the “network truth”, Leon would take the direction to Lublin. And so it finally happened.

While in Krakow, we asked at the source. After the PP semi -final, Marcin Komenda, playing the Lublin team, reacted to the transfer revelations.

– He didn’t call, he didn’t call so far, unless when I played the match (laughs). Of course I’m kidding. If it really was that it would go to the club from Lublin, I will be very happy and I will do everything to look best with him in a duet – Captain Bogdanka Luk said with a smile.

Leon reached PlusLiga and indeed, he turned out to be a hit of the club from Lublin.

Looking at the story, the most triumphs in the struggles played since 1932-regularly appearing since the 1980/81 edition (with a one-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic)-ten times were won by volleyballers from Kędzierzyn-Koźle. Until the past year (i.e. 2024) Zaksa had a great series of five wins (and four in a row) in six editions from the 2018/19 season.

In total, ZAKSA has 13 medals in their achievements, ten zlotys and three silver. On the podium of the medal classification of the PP of all time are additionally: the second AZS Olsztyn (seven zlotys, five silver) and Skra Bełchatów (seven zlotys, three silver).

Interestingly, the top ten will also have a place for the Krakow club. It is a steelwife in Kraków, winning three times. Currently, fans in Tauron Arena will not find the “host”, and in the case of Krakow triumphs, we are talking about old times. Hutnik volleyballers won in 1974 (still as Hutnik Nowa Huta), 1988 and 1990.
