Seniors can count on such privileges. One document is enough
Having a pensioner’s card entitles you to many privileges. The process of obtaining a document has been simplified in recent years.
A pensioner’s card can be obtained by persons who have an established right to a pension, disability pension or teacher’s compensation benefit. This is a document that confirms the status of a pensioner. It opens the door to a number of privileges in everyday life. The most noticeable are those related to communication and transport.
Pensioner ID card. What privileges?
As Wirtualna Polska reminds, holders of a pensioner’s card can benefit from statutory discounts for travel on PKP Intercity trains, where they are entitled to two journeys a year with a discount of 38%. in second grade. In the case of urban transport, the rules are set by individual local governments. Most metropolises offer cheap season tickets to seniors (so-called senior tickets), and after exceeding a certain age threshold (usually 70), travel becomes completely free.
It is worth emphasizing that the document entitles you to use health care services. In some pharmacies or rehabilitation facilities, it allows you to obtain additional discounts on non-reimbursable medicines or treatments supporting physical fitness. Moreover, card holders can count on reduced prices in sanatoriums and receive discounts on rehabilitation stays.
Thanks to the ID, seniors can benefit from discounts on services in places related to culture, such as theaters, museums, art galleries and cinemas. The situation is similar in the case of sports centers, such as swimming pools or municipal fitness centers, which often provide special senior hours or dedicated price lists.
Another important privilege is the exemption from RTV license fees. It is worth noting, however, that this applies to people who are over 60 years of age and have a pension not exceeding half of the average salary, or to all people over 75 years of age.
How to make it?
The portal points out that the process of obtaining a pensioner’s ID has been simplified in recent years. From 2023, ZUS will issue this document automatically to all new beneficiaries in electronic form, the so-called mLegitymacja. It is available in the free mObywatel application, which can be installed on your smartphone. This digital version has exactly the same legal force as a traditional card and can be used in all offices and service points.
People who want to receive a document in a traditional form must submit an application to ZUS, which can be done in person at any branch, send the documents by post, or use the PUE ZUS Electronic Services Platform. The issuance of the first plastic ID card and its electronic version is completely free for every pensioner.
