Semirun and winning medals for Poland

Semirunnij, who comes from Russia, obtained Polish citizenship in August last year. He openly condemns the invasion of Vladimir Putin’s army into Ukraine, and he has been living in our country since 2023.

– Poland welcomed me like a child. It’s true that I was more nervous about being granted the residence card, but I tried not to think about it because everyone was convincing me that I would get the passport. The union did a great job and I am very grateful for it, because the entire procedure took less than two years! Now all I have to do is fight for the Olympic qualification and then for the medal, said the athlete, quoted by the official website of the Polish Speed Skating Association.

– I said, I always said, not to stress, because I will do everything to get an Olympic medal. Now I am Polish, I have a passport, I can win medals and represent the country. And I try to do it – he added in front of the Eurosport camera, after winning the silver medal at Winter Olympics 2026.
