Second -hand solar The set is much cheaper, but is it profitable?
Photovoltaic panels cheaper by up to half is an offer next to which it is difficult to pass by indifferently. But sometimes it’s worth it. What is cheaper does not always turn out to be profitable.
The frenzy for installing solar panels is not gone, although it is slightly smaller. The cause is problems that are associated with the use of the installation. In 2024, Poland was once again at the forefront of European Union countries in terms of power increase installed in photovoltaics. By adding another 4.4 GW new power in solar farms, Poland took fifth place in Europe in terms of the pace of the development of this sector in 2024. A year earlier we were in the fourth place.
Currently, one Pole is 464 in power in solar. In this respect, we overtook even more sunny Spain and it was two years ago. According to data from the energy market agency, at the end of March 2025 in Poland there were 1,542,019 prosumer installations (micro -installations). Their total power is already 12,282.93 MW.
What funding can you still count on?
Poles decide on solar installations massively thanks to government funding. In 2025 you can also apply for them. One of the most popular programs supporting photovoltaic installations is the government program “My electricity”. It offers not only the co -financing of photovoltaics itself, but also financing of heat storage and electricity warehouses. The call for proposals takes place in a continuous basis.
The financing reaches up to 50 percent. costs, so the game is still worth the candle. Just like considering a decision, whether to decide to install a new installation or invest in cheaper second -hand panels?
New panels or used, however?
Used panels can be bought for about 50-70 percent. regular price, but this amount should be added slightly more expensive transport and assembly, which will consume about 30 percent. More money than in the case of new equipment. Additional adaptation works are also at stake.
The question is justified because used photovoltaic panels can show much lower efficiency than new devices with the manufacturer’s warranty. People buying second -hand equipment should also watch out for dishonest sellers who want to get rid of panels with hidden defects and damage.
It is not worth investing in panels with visible cracks, discoloration or other mechanical damage. Before buying, you need to carefully check the date of production, the history of their use as well as certificates and technical documentation. It will also not do without performing performance tests in various lighting conditions. It is also worth devoting a lot of attention to checking the condition of electrical connections, as well as the availability of spare parts.
Warranty for used equipment
According to experts, the annual decrease in the energy efficiency of photovoltaic panels is about 0.5-0.8 percent. This means that people buying ten-year panels will become the owners of the installation, which will produce about 5-8 percent from the start. electricity less than a new device.
Interestingly, although with second -hand panels, the manufacturer’s warranty usually expires, companies specialized in the sale of used panels offer their own warranty, but for a period of two to five years. Such a guarantee should include protection against production and material defects, servicing, maintaining minimal equipment efficiency for a specified time and the possibility of returning in the event of a serious defect.
It is worth remembering that thanks to more and more modern technology, about 80-90 percent. Photovoltaic cells are suitable for reusable.
