Scared animal on the runway. Ryanair flight diverted
For this reason, the flight has not been diverted for a long time. In Italy, airport staff were surprised by a scared boar on the runway.
Ryanair passengers certainly did not expect their travel plans to change in such unusual circumstances. On Saturday, a flight that took off from Brindisi in Puglia and was bound for Turin airport was diverted to Milan Malpensa airport. Previously, the crew waited for 21 minutes for permission to land.
Wild boar at the airport
It turned out that a wild boar had got onto the runway. The animal ventured from the nearby forests to the airport area.
Sky TG24 reports that airport technicians noticed them and the crew was informed about the problem early enough. The video shows the animal running around a grassy area, looking for a way out. Ground crew cars follow him.
Technicians from SAGAT, the company managing Turin airport, were to transport the animal to a safe place. It was scared and very confused. The situation quickly returned to normal, although the Italian media does not report where exactly the wild boar was released or whether the fence injured it.
Although the flight from Brindisi to Turin takes less than two hours, the passengers’ journey was extended by several hours. After landing in Milan, they were taken by bus to Turin. It is still unknown how the animal entered the runway. Currently, its authorities are wondering how to protect the airport area against a similar event.
The wild boar did not significantly disturb the functioning of the port in Turin. Traffic resumed and there were no further disruptions.
Emu at the airport in Poland
A similar situation occurred a day later also in Poland. A lost emu bird wandered close to the fence of the Lublin Airport. In this case, fortunately, it did not make it to the runway. Police officers on duty at the airport caught the animal, and Lublin port security staff helped hold it. The owner of the emu from the Łęczyński district quickly arrived at the scene. The police gave him a warning and then helped him place the animal in his vehicle. The incident did not cause any threat to flight operations.
