Sasin critically about the Supreme Audit Office report. “If this merger had not occurred, Lotos would not have had a chance to survive”
The Supreme Audit Office presented a report on the merger of Orlen with Lotos. It was addressed not only by Orlen itself, but also by Jacek Sasin, former deputy prime minister and minister of state assets who supervises it.
On February 5, the Supreme Audit Office presented a long-awaited report on irregularities in the merger of Orlen and Lotos, which has been cited many times by politicians (even though the entire report was not known to the public).
Sasin about the Supreme Audit Office’s report on the merger of Orlen and Lotos
Jacek Sasin, former deputy prime minister and minister of state assets who supervised Orlen, commented on the matter on Polsat News. The politician was asked, among others: about the words of MP Agnieszka Pomaska.
– The MP has been talking about this for a long time. Many foolish statements are made. He doesn’t really know what he’s talking about. He has no idea how the merger of two large corporations works. I hope that Mrs Pomaska is not the justice system in Poland – said Jacek Sasin.
The former deputy prime minister also referred to the main accusation contained in the Supreme Audit Office’s report, i.e. the alleged undervaluation of shares in the Gdańsk Refinery.
– I’m asking what the valuation is. There is no such thing as a NIK valuation. There are some estimates based on incomplete data. On the one hand, at stake are valuations created by renowned companies EY, PKO Investment, KPMG and Rothschild. On the other hand, we have estimates from NIK auditors, which are not known on what basis they were created – said Jacek Sasin. – The fact that this merger was carried out reliably is supported by several dozen thousand pages of analyzes by serious institutions – added.
– As the minister of state assets, I did everything to properly control this process. A special team with representatives of ministries and secret services was created for this purpose. MAP also commissioned an in-depth analysis of this process by KPMG, which clearly assessed that the merger is beneficial for Poland economically and in terms of energy security – he pointed out.
– It was also pointed out that if this merger had not taken place, Lotos would not have had a chance to survive. Either it will need a very high level of capital injection from the State Treasury, or it will not survive in the context of the regulations envisaged by the European Commission – Jacek Sasin recalled.
Sasin: I am praying for President Banaś
The former deputy prime minister also referred to the words of President Marian Banaś, who said that he was praying for Jarosław Kaczyński.
– I am praying for President Banaś to finally start behaving like the president of the Supreme Audit Office, and not like someone who produces reports on political orders. It’s very sad because it was once a very respected institution – said Jacek Sasin. – It seemed to me that he was a man with a state backbone. Today I regret what documents he signs – added Jacek Sasin.
