SAFE agreement signed. “Poland safer by PLN 180 billion”
A loan agreement under SAFE was signed in Warsaw. In the coming days, Poland is to receive the first EUR 6 billion.
On Friday, a loan agreement under SAFE was signed in Warsaw. Approximately 1:30 p.m. the documents regarding the SAFE agreement were signed by: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański, President of the Management Board of BGK Mirosław Czekaj, First Vice-President of the Management Board of BGK Marta Postuła, as well as EU Commissioners: Andrius Kubilius and Piotr Serafin.

After signing, the document was handed over to Donald Tusk. – This is a special moment. A truly solemn moment that deserves such a setting. This is a breakthrough moment in the history of Poland and the European Union –said the head of government.
– But it is not about solemn ceremonies at this crucial moment. This is about the essence of this breakthrough. Poland will be safer in these difficult and risky times. It will be safer by PLN 180 billion. This is a gigantic amount. This is the amount that will be invested directly and directly in Polish security, the Polish arms industry, and in Polish companies. – he added.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that “we will avoid open conflict”, but as he noted, “we know the time and place we live in, so we want to make sure that the Polish army and the Polish arms industry will be able to meet any challenge.”
First measures available in days
The loan agreement from the SAFE program for Poland was approved by the European Commission on May 5. According to the announcement of the plenipotentiary for the Instrument for Enhancing European Security, Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, Poland should receive the first EUR 6 billion around May 10.
The SAFE Agreement is a loan under the EU SAFE program (Support to Accelerate Forces in Europe), which is intended to contribute to strengthening defense and security on the Old Continent. The government’s announcement shows that Poland is the largest beneficiary of the program and will receive a total of approximately EUR 43.7 billion (approx. PLN 180 billion).
