Ryanair will raise ticket prices in a holiday country? The head of the line gave the condition

Szef linii Ryanair, Michael O’Leary (w środku) podczas konferencji w Warszawie

Spain is the second market of the Ryanair line and the direction loved by Poles. Recently, Irish lines have announced cuts in a summer flight grid in this country, in the background there is also a multi -million fine applied to the carrier. We asked the boss Ryanair, Michael O’Leary, about whether this situation will affect the flight prices.

Low air lines have long been not offering additional luggage in the form of a small cabin suitcase at the price of an air ticket. It happens that passengers who have exceeded the limit of the permissible size of a small backpack or a purchased suitcase pays a considerable amount or … decide on a desperate step in the destruction of the handle or luggage wheels, just not to pay.

Ryanair punished by the Spanish government

In November, the Spanish government finished five airlines for “unfair practices”, including charging fees for hand luggage from passengers. Ryanair received the largest penalty of EUR 107.8 million. This is not the only disputed issue. The Euronews portal reported that the lines removed 800,000 places from the Spanish market, which is 18 percent. all operations in this country. He also liquidated twelve routes to this country and reduced the frequency of some. The reason was the dispute over the rates applied to the lines.

Can higher rates and such a high penalty imposed on the rope mean that flights from Poland will get up?

Ticket prices for holiday countries. O’leary warns

After the conference in Warsaw, we asked the boss Ryanair, Michael O’Leary. He calmed down Irish lines. He noted that Spain is the second market for the carrier in Europe.

– We think that the fines for luggage are illegal and that they will be repealed. We have already appealed to the Spanish court in this case and we will refer to European. We do not think that it has any impact on our activity in this market. But if this does not happen (a fine for hand luggage will be maintained – ed.), This will increase the prices of aviation tickets in Spain. If the airlines are not free, if they are suddenly told that they are to bring all the luggage on board for free, then, first: we have too much luggage. And secondly, our whole business model will have to change, and the prices of air tickets will have to be raised – he said “Wprost” after a press conference on Tuesday in Warsaw.

Additional luggage fees in cheap lines

He did not spare sharp words to the Spanish government and minister Pablo Bustindy, minister for social rights, consumers and agenda 2030, who decided that the fine protects the rights of clients paying for hand luggage.

– We have a crazy minister in Spain who announces how airlines can charge fees for our services. This is incompatible with EU law. One of the biggest advantages (market activities – ed.) Of the European Union is the 1008/2008 regulation. She says that airlines can freely set prices without the interference of the government – Ryanair CEO noted in an interview with us.

And in connection with the dispute, can we expect new routes from Poland to Spain in the coming seasons? For now, the head of the line reminded the opening of the next this year. He also drew attention to the increase in interest in existing connections, to Spanish cities loved by tourists.

– We are opening new routes this year. We also increase the frequency of flights at larger airports, such as Palma, Malaga, Madrid or Barcelona, we grow strongly there – said Ryanair CEO.

Let us remind you that this spring from Poland will start the Spanish new products of this carrier, including Kraków-Castellon and Poznań-Walencja. Summer news was officially announced by the carrier in January.
