Ryanair will no longer provide services at three European airports. The reason is a “harmful” air tax.

Ryanair made the final decision regarding the presence of French airports. The popular carrier will no longer provide its air services in the ports of Strasbourg, Brive and Bergerac. The reason is a high air tax, which increased from 2.63 euros to 7.40 euros per passenger in the case of domestic and European flights. This means that France will lose as many as 25 carrier routes and 750 thousand. jobs. Ryanair still appeals to the French government to resign from a fee, which they do not have, among others Ireland, Spain and Poland.

Ryanair turns away from France

The consequences of introducing air tax hit in French passengers. Ryanair decided to hang all flights from airports in Strasbourg, Brive and Bergerac. Earlier this year, the low-budget carrier has already resigned from surgery at the Vatra airport in the north-eastern part of the country. “At a time when France should focus on reconstruction and development, Ryanair has no other choice but to reduce its processing capacity for winter 2025 by 13 percent due to the lack of reaction of the French government to this harmful air tax,” says Jason Mcguinness, commercial director of Ryanair.

The carrier praises Poland

In the latest statement, in which Ryanair announced the changes, he once again criticized the French government, by the way praising several other European countries. “This astronomical tax makes France less competitive compared to other EU countries, such as Ireland, Spain and Poland, which do not impose any air taxes,” said.

In the past, however, there were voices that an additional fee for passengers would also be introduced at Polish airports. However, changes in this regard have not been introduced yet.
