Russia is developing a biological weapons laboratory near Moscow? There is new information

Ofiara wtorkowego ataku trującym gazem

Since the invasion of Ukraine, Russia has been intensively developing its military base, including biological weapons laboratories. Of particular interest is the expansion of the Sergiev Posad-6 facility, located near Moscow, as reported by The Washington Post in its latest report.

This military laboratory, which was established in the times of the Soviet Union, plays a key role in the Russian defense strategy, and its infrastructure is currently being dynamically expanded.

Development of Sergiev Posad-6

According to information from The Washington Post, as many as ten new buildings have been built there over the last two years, covering a total area of 23,000 square meters. The analysis of satellite images provided by Google Earth and commercial companies specializing in imaging allowed the detection of intensive construction works – not only on the renovation of existing infrastructure, but also on the construction of new, technologically advanced facilities.

Furthermore, images from April and May 2023 revealed the construction of an underground tunnel connecting the laboratories to the plant, ensuring safe and undetected movement of personnel and transport under controlled conditions.

According to experts analyzing these photos, some of the newly constructed buildings have specific infrastructure features that suggest they are intended for work with dangerous pathogens.

Four of these buildings are equipped with advanced ventilation systems typical of high-security laboratories used when working with hazardous biological materials. The layout of the new buildings and their strict control demonstrate a high level of security and indicate that the facility plays an important role in the Russian military program.

Russia’s official position

In April 2024, in an interview with Krasnaya Zvezda, Sergei Borisevich, the military head of the laboratory, described Sergiev Posad-6 as a key element of the Russian biological defense system. He emphasized that the main goal of the facility is to develop medical supplies to protect Russian troops and civilians against potential biological threats.

In Borisewicz’s opinion, the laboratory operates only defensively, focusing on the development of safeguards against the use of biological weapons by “hostile foreign forces” and terrorist organizations. The Kremlin, in official statements, consistently denies any offensive activity in this field, emphasizing that the research is carried out only for defensive purposes.

However, many international experts are skeptical about these assurances. Andrew Weber, a former Pentagon specialist on Russian biological weapons facilities, stated that the intensification of work at Sergiev Posad-6 raises serious concerns for the international community.

Mallory Stewart, deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Arms Control, highlighted Russia’s lack of transparency regarding its military facilities, which raises questions about the true purpose of the research. “The Russians have never been transparent about Defense Department facilities,” Stewart told The Washington Post. – “This raises questions about what they are hiding.”

Russian accusations against Ukraine and the USA

The expansion of the laboratory coincided with the intensification of the Russian disinformation campaign, in which the Kremlin accused the US of cooperating with Ukraine on a biological weapons program directed against Russia.

In June 2022, Russia officially submitted a complaint to the UN, accusing Ukraine of preparing to use biological weapons, but these accusations were never supported by evidence, which, according to observers, was intended only to manipulate public opinion and legitimize its own military actions.

Russian accusations against the US and Ukraine are perceived by experts as part of a propaganda strategy aimed at justifying the Russian invasion and diverting attention from its own actions. Some analysts point out that through such accusations, Moscow is also trying to gain a moral advantage in the international arena, presenting itself as a country threatened by the “aggressive” plans of the West.
