Russia has started the second stage of nuclear exercises. Units of the Leningrad Military District bordering NATO take part in the maneuvers. It also includes the Königsberg Oblast.
Units of the Leningrad Military District are practicing combat tasks as part of the second stage of maneuvers of non-strategic nuclear forces. The tasks include, among others: on acquiring special training ammunition for the Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system, equipping vehicle launchers with them and secretly moving to the designated area of the position in order to prepare for launching the missiles.
In turn, the crews of naval ships participating in the exercises had to equip naval cruise missiles with special training warheads and go to designated patrol areas.

On the second day of the maneuvers, training and combat tasks involving a secret attack on a designated position area were practiced, and electronic missile launches were carried out against simulated enemy targets. The crews of the Navy Fleet went to sea in the designated patrol area.
The General Staff of the Russian Ministry of Defense reported in May about “increasing the readiness of non-strategic nuclear forces to conduct combat missions.” This happened on the orders of Vladimir Putin.
Russia on “Western threats
As reported then, the exercises are to address the issues of “preparation and use of tactical nuclear weapons” in order to “unconditionally ensure the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in response to provocative statements and threats of individual Western officials” against Russia.
The Russian Ministry of Defense mentioned that the Belarusian military is also involved in preparations for the use of non-strategic nuclear forces. During the first stage of the maneuvers, personnel from the missile formations of the Southern Military District also participated in the exercises.
