Robert Lewandowski’s secret in the Polish national team. “They’re keeping it a secret.”
In 2008, Robert Lewandowski made his debut in the senior Polish national team. 18 years of competition, representing the national colors of RL9 – and what’s next?
This question appears more and more often in the context of the captain of the Polish national team. RL9 turned 38 in August this year, and the club decided to leave Europe, eventually landing in Chicago Fire.
“Lewy” himself was asked several times, including during the Monday (September 21) press conference, what his plans were to play for the Polish national team. However, the captain did not give a clear answer, suggesting that he would make the final decision when he felt that this was the moment.
A secret with Robert Lewandowski? Jan Urban may know this
For now, however, RL9 still has the will to come to training camps and represent the country in international competitions. An interesting theory in the context of Lewandowski’s future in national colors was presented by Michał Żewłakow, former captain of the Polish national team.
– It is known that he has done a lot for the national team for “x” years, but today it is time for us to also assess his form. I have the impression, looking at the media and all these conferences, that after them I found out who was called up and why, but in the context of “Lewy’s” further play in the national team, we know the same as before (…) It is very possible that Robert and coach Jan Urban have explained a certain pattern. Only now they are keeping it a secret so that they can share it with the media at the right time. Such a career should end at a major tournament, preferably highlighted by some success, commented the former Polish representative for TVP Sport.
Could it actually look like this? It seems that the most realistic scenario for now is the end of RL9’s national team career after the European Championships in 2028. As long as Poland manages to advance to this tournament, which is not so obvious.
When will the Polish national football team play their matches? Where to watch?
What awaits the Polish national team in the near future under coach Urban? First of all, competition in the B division in the previously mentioned Nations League.
Poland will start with a match against Bosnia and Herzegovina (September 25, Warsaw). Then a trip to Sweden (September 28, Solna), back to Poland and a clash with Romania (October 2, Warsaw) and at the end of the four-match marathon, another match against BiH – this time as visitors (October 5, Zenica).
