Robert Lewandowski’s ‘100’ for FC Barcelona. A great triumph in a blockbuster match
FC Barcelona crushed Girona 4-1 away in Sunday’s LaLiga hit. Robert Lewandowski played his 100th match for the Pride of Catalonia, although without a goal.
Coach Hansi Flick continues his great run as coach of FC Barcelona. Since the German took over the team, the Pride of Catalonia has been doing phenomenally in LaLiga. It seemed that the big challenge for the Catalan team would be the away match with Girona. However, the revelation of the previous season turned out to be just a backdrop for the team of the German coach.
Robert Lewandowski celebrates his anniversary, Barca wins spectacularly
The hero of the first 45 minutes for the league leader was Lamine Yamal. The young Spaniard has no intention of slowing down after Euro 2024, continuing to impress on the pitch with his flair with the ball and his extraordinary talent. If things continue like this, in a few years Barca fans will stop missing Lionel Messi for good. Yamal scored two goals in the first half in Girona, with Robert Lewandowski assisting on one of the goals.
The Pole had additional motivation, because on Sunday he was playing his 100th match for the club from Catalonia. What’s more, RL9 had several opportunities to mark his anniversary with a goal. Ultimately, however, especially in the second half, there was a lack of effectiveness. Already leading 4:0, in the 68th minute, coach Flick decided to pull his ace off the pitch. Lewandowski’s goals will probably come in handy on other occasions.
It should be added that Barcelona did not get through the match in Girona unscathed. The scorer of the goal in the 3-0, Dani Olmo, was injured.
In addition, the hosts scored a consolation goal, and the visitors had to finish the match shorthanded after Ferran Torres received a red card for a brutal foul. However, this did not prevent them from winning and adding their fifth win in… the fifth match of the season. It must be admitted that Barca opened the competition impressively.
Robert Lewandowski impresses in the colors of FC Barcelona
The numbers the Polish striker has put up in Spain are impressive. Lewandowski has scored 63 goals in 100 official matches for Barcelona. He has also provided 18 assists. Barcelona has won 66 matches with the Pole in the squad, 13 matches have ended in draws, and there have also been 21 defeats.
In the first four matches of the new LaLiga season, the Polish striker scored four goals. Breaking down Lewandowski’s goals into individual competitions, he scored the most in the Spanish league, 46. He also scored eight in the Champions League, one in the UEFA Europa League and four in the Spanish Cup and Super Cup.
