Robert Lewandowski with a goal at Euro 2024! What a drama!
In the 79th minute of the Poland-France match, the White and Reds scored a goal. The score was 1:1 thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s penalty kick.
The Polish national team failed to score a single point in the first two group matches at the European Championships in Germany. The White and Reds lost to the Netherlands (1:2) and Austria (1:3).
Euro 2024: Robert Lewandowski with a goal against France
The Poles could not be satisfied with Kylian Mbappe’s goal in the 56th minute of the match. Throughout the first half, France could not find a solution to the Polish defense, led by the excellently prepared Łukasz Skorupski. The goalkeeper replacing Wojciech Szczęsny that day played flawlessly.
Unfortunately, just before the future Real Madrid star and captain of the Tricolours scored, Jakub Kiwior committed a foul in the penalty area. Mbappe did not waste opportunities such as a penalty. Skorupski had no chance.
However, it turned out that the Poles would respond with a goal in the same style. A penalty was awarded after consulting VAR. Karol Świderski was fouled in the penalty box. Robert Lewandowski took the penalty.
“Lewy” penalty kick just like in the World Championships in Qatar
Mike Maignan, goalkeeper of the French and AC Milan, intervened effectively on the first opportunity from the penalty kick. As it turned out, the goalkeeper of the Three Colors lost his nerve, leaving the goal line prematurely.
The Polish and French fans had the same experience during the 1/8 finals of the World Cup in Qatar. The Poles lost 1:3, but the consolation goal was scored by Lewandowski, also after the second penalty kick taken (i.e. retaken).
It was no different in Germany, already during Euro 2024. Lewandowski hit, again in the same corner, but very precisely, with a shot that went in after the post of the French goal. It was Lewandowski’s 83rd goal for the Polish national team.
