Robert Lewandowski topic number 1. This is the most important decision of FC Barcelona
The topic of Robert Lewandowski’s future is slowly coming to a head. Will the Pole stay at FC Barcelona? Does the Pride of Catalonia have a successor to RL9?
These questions have been going around for several months now, looking at Robert Lewandowski and FC Barcelona. The Spanish champions certainly have a tough nut to crack. We are talking about the most important striker in recent years in the capital of Catalonia.
Loss of a Pole? Even though it is calculated and more and more likely, it still seems to be a huge challenge.
Robert Lewandowski leaves FC Barcelona. The situation seems clear
RL9 went to the Pride of Catalonia in the summer of 2022. He joined FC Barcelona as the biggest star of Bayern Munich and the entire Bundesliga. Yet Lewandowski needed new challenges. As it turned out, it was a great choice, because the Pole quickly turned out to be a goal-scoring player also on the Iberian Peninsula.
Will Lewandowski say goodbye to Barca after four seasons? Observing the reports from both the Spanish and Catalan media, this scenario seems more and more likely. The Pole will turn 38 in August 2026. Additionally, RL9 had his own health problems, an injury – especially to the left thigh – excluded the striker both at the end of the previous season and in the preparation period and the first part of the current campaign.
Paradoxically, however, Lewandowski is still effective. And if someone were to have a headache related to parting with the Pole, they should look more towards Barca itself. We read about it, among others: Friday’s text in the Catalan “Sport”.
The most important sporting decision that Barcelona must make in the near future is whether to extend his contract or replace Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker will turn 38 in August, and considering his limited role this season, everything indicates that he will spend his last months with Blaugrana. However, there are not many better goalscorers on the market than Lewandowski, and the two who undoubtedly are, Haaland and Mbappé, are impossible to acquire (…) Deco continues his search because replacing Lewandowski is his biggest challenge and he cannot afford to fail – notes Joan Mª Batlle, the author of the text.
Portuguese sports director Deco will indeed face a difficult challenge. Today, Lewandowski is a striker who plays interchangeably with Ferran Torres. However, the Spaniard is not a classy sniper enough to compete with the best, especially in the prestigious Champions League.
The media favorite in the context of replacing RL9 is Julian Alvarez. The Argentine is an Atletico Madrid player. Getting him out of the Spanish capital will cost up to EUR 150 million. And this seems to be a prohibitive amount in the context of Barcelona’s current financial capabilities. At the other extreme, Lewandowski is said to have offered a pay cut in exchange for a contract for another one or two seasons with Blaugrana.
As you can guess, this series about the future of Poles may take some time. RL9’s contract with Barca expires in June 2026. The captain of the Polish national team had already received several offers, including: from Saudi Arabia or the American MLS. However, Lewandowski clearly stated that he would make his decision regarding the club’s future closer to the end of the 2025/26 season.
