Robert Lewandowski presented in Chicago Fire. “I have to learn this”

Robert Lewandowski

On Tuesday (i.e. July 14), Robert Lewandowski was officially presented in Chicago Fire. The Pole had his first training session with the team and appeared at the conference.

Robert Lewandowski’s transfer to the USA was supposed to be a real transfer bomb, considering the achievements of the Polish striker. What’s more, Chicago Fire will also pay a lot of money for the contract that the captain of the Polish national team recently signed.

And although Lewandowski’s name will certainly be compared with the best in MLS, it must be admitted that the Pole’s first day at the club and his performance… were far from fireworks.

RL9 officially on Chicago Fire. The Pole has had his first day at the club

“Lewy” appeared in Chicago from Monday to Tuesday (July 13-14), looking at Polish watches. RL9 was greeted by locals and then quietly transported from the airport. We informed about the whole thing while waiting for the events that were to take place on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

And indeed, the Polish striker showed up at the club, where he had his first training session with the team.

Classes started at 5:30 p.m. A press conference with Lewandowski and manager Gregg Berhalter is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. It must be admitted that it was quite an unusual story – considering that at 9:00 p.m. the semi-final of the World Cup began, i.e. an absolutely blockbuster match between France and Spain.

At the meeting with journalists, Lewandowski was smiling from ear to ear. He complimented the club for its commitment and determination in bringing the Pole to the USA.

– It doesn’t matter how many titles I have. The important thing is that I feel the Fire in Chicago and see great potential. I was impressed with the project presented to me for further development. A new stadium is also being built here, there are many aspects. This transfer has been a commitment for the last few months. This topic was there somewhere. I needed a little more time to prepare it all. This time was needed for me, for the family. It’s a long step, but we wanted it. It will be a nice thing for a large group of Poles to meet here during Chicago Fire matches. I think it will move forward. It’s a new, cool, great experience – admitted Lewandowski.

The Pole also smiled with a smile about the nomenclature “soccer” instead of “football”, which is used in the United States.

– I have to learn it – Lewandowski admitted, adding after a while: – The name is interesting, soccer. In Europe they say football, but for me football is football, said the Pole.

It’s time for Robert Lewandowski’s MLS debut. When and where to watch?

Interestingly, in the context of Lewandowski, there was also an idea for the Pole to appear in the VIP stand during the 2026 World Cup final, i.e. on July 19. The presence at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey is the idea of one of the club’s sponsors from Chicago.

Fire will play their first match after the break in the competition on Friday, July 17. The rivals of the Firemen will be the Vancouver Whitecaps. Interestingly, the match will be played… before the decisive results of the ongoing World Cup 2026. The World Cup lasts until July 19.

However, it is possible that this will be the day of the official debut of the new number 9 in the ranks of “Firefighters”.

The Chicago Fire – Vancouver Whitecaps match will take place on Friday (July 17), at 1:30 a.m. Polish time. MLS league matches are shown on the Apple TV platform. No other platform was interested in obtaining the so-called sublicense for showing matches of the American-Canadian competition, which we wrote about in a separate text in WPROST.
