Robert Lewandowski on the way out? The contract with FC Barcelona is coming to an end

Robert Lewandowski

From the summer of 2022, Robert Lewandowski plays for FC Barcelona. Is this the Pole’s last season in the colors of the Pride of Catalonia? The expert has no doubts.

Although the Pole is 37 years old, it is hard not to resist the impression that he is like wine – the older, the better. Robert Lewandowski amazes virtually everyone, from professionals and experts, through coaches and journalists, to the fans themselves. The Pole in the ranks of FC Barcelona is a very important element of the puzzle, which is eagerly used by coach Hansi Flick.

What’s next for Robert Lewandowski? The contract with Barcelona is coming to an end!

The Polish striker has been a player of the Pride of Catalonia since the summer of 2022. Then, after eight years (2014-22), he left Bayern Munich, deciding to sign a contract with one of the most recognizable clubs in the world.

Since then, RL9 has scored 105 goals for Barca in all competitions. This is what the Pole’s counter looks like before Wednesday’s Champions League hit, in which the Spanish champions will face the defending champions of the best club team on the Old Continent from the 2024/25 season, Paris Saint-Germain.

Interestingly, the Pole’s contract with Barca expires at the end of the current campaign. Will Lewandowski decide to leave the capital of Catalonia? Or maybe Barca no longer sees a future with the Pole in their squad?

– Robert will play, but I think he will be in the starting eleven less often. Ferran Torres or Marcus Rashford can play in his position and Hansi Flick will take advantage of these opportunities. Especially since the team has to get used to functioning without Lewandowski, because this may be his last season (…) I wonder if he would accept a less important role in Barcelona or choose an offer from Saudi Arabia or the USA. It seems to me that in this matter, more depends on Lewandowski than on Barca. There is no doubt that when he appears on the pitch, he still brings a lot to the team’s game – admitted Spanish coach Kibu Vicuna for TVP Sport, who in the past was associated with, among others, with Wisła Płock, Zagłębie Lubin, Śląsk Wrocław and Legia Warszawa.

Looking at the table of Barcelona’s all-time scorers, it seems that the Pole can still jump at least a few positions. Will he have the opportunity to break records also in the new season, i.e. 2026/27? It seems that Barca, contrary to experts’ opinions, may decide to initial a contract with the Pole, extending his stay in the capital of Catalonia for another year.

It is worth adding that this summer, another Polish player, Wojciech Szczęsny, signed a contract with Barcelona until the end of the 2026/27 season.

“Szczena” was supposed to be a substitute in coach Flick’s team, but due to the injury suffered by Joan Garcia – Barca’s new number one – the Pole jumped between the posts. And this state of affairs is expected to last at least until the end of October, when the Spanish goalkeeper is scheduled to return.
