Robert Lewandowski is Barcelona’s savior. The team needed him badly
Robert Lewandowski has helped FC Barcelona to a positive start to the La Liga season. The Pole scored two goals that secured the triumph of the “Pride of Catalonia” over Valencia.
FC Barcelona fans have been waiting for the start of the season for a long time, although they were accompanied by considerable concerns about the team’s form. Although their beloved club won the opening match, it is difficult to suspect that all worries have been put aside. Hansi Flick’s team defeated Valencia 2-1 thanks to goals from Robert Lewandowski. However, they have a lot to improve in the context of the next matches.
Robert Lewandowski saved FC Barcelona from a setback
Valencia were the first to take the lead in the match. In the 44th minute of the match, Hugo Duro opened the scoring after an assist from Diego Lopez. The team from Catalonia responded immediately, because they went into the break after scoring a goal. Alex Balde crossed into the penalty area, and Lamine Yamal immediately passed the ball to Robert Lewandowski. The Pole gave his opponent no chance from close range, scoring his first league goal of the 2024/2025 season.
The goal certainly helped mentally, because earlier in the match Barcelona, including Lewandowski, did not present themselves as the fans and the coach expected. Right after the start of the second half, “Lewy” had another chance to score a goal and took it. Referee Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez awarded a penalty after Mosquera fouled Raphinha. The Pole converted the penalty into a goal. Later, he also came close to a third, but the Valencia defender blocked it in time.
The hosts, who had moments of quickness in the first half, played much worse in the second. They were unable to create opportunities to equalize. On the other hand, Barcelona also lacked effectiveness, because they could have won by more than just one goal.
Start of the 2024/2025 La Liga season
In the next La Liga match, FC Barcelona will face Athletic Bilbao at home, while on Sunday, August 18, the league season will be inaugurated by Spanish champions Real Madrid.
