Robert Lewandowski did not help Barcelona. Killer blow at the finish!
The match between FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid ended with the guests winning 2-1. Robert Lewandowski failed to get on the scoresheet in the blockbuster at the top of the LaLiga table.
These are not the easiest days for Robert Lewandowski. FC Barcelona’s top scorer is under a lot of pressure every time he can’t find a way to beat the opposing goalkeeper. And this type of story happened to the Pole in the last two matches, including all competitions.
LaLiga: FC Barcelona lost to Atletico Madrid, Robert Lewandowski without a goal
The last goal he scored in an official RL9 match was on December 7 in a match against Betis in Seville (2-2). A few days later, the Pole made a sentimental trip to Dortmund for a Champions League match. Ultimately, Barca defeated Borussia (3:2), but it was difficult to classify Lewandowski’s performance in Germany as particularly successful.
It got even worse four days later, when Barcelona were about to take an easy three points in LaLiga. It was difficult to assume a different scenario since Leganes came to the capital of Catalonia. However, coach Hansi Flick’s team once again dropped what seemed to be certain three points, sensationally losing 0-1. Unfortunately, in this case Lewandowski was part of the sad landscape of Barca’s ineffective offensive. The Pole had several opportunities to score a goal, but was left with nothing.
History repeated itself on Saturday evening, against Atletico Madrid (1-2). Looking at the league table, the two best teams of the season met in Catalonia. However, it ended with the visitors winning. Coach Diego Simeone’s team had their own idea for the match against the LaLiga leader. Although there was a pinch of luck, especially when the score was 1-0 for the hosts, Rodrigo de Paul’s goal silenced the stands at the Barca stadium.
Before the Argentine scored the equalizer in the 60th minute, Barcelona was leading after Pedri’s first-half goal.
Lewandowski? He was active, he even had a few opportunities to add a foot, but most often the opponent’s defense prevailed, or the Pole was a bit unlucky, or…
It must be admitted, however, that since the striker is counted on goals, it is difficult to give a positive note for this performance for the best scorer – not only of Barcelona – but of the entire Spanish league. The Pole’s counter stopped at 16 goals. Worse still for Barcelona, Atletico struck a decisive blow in almost the last action of the match. Alexander Sorloth scored in the 96th minute of the match. Thus, Barcelona lost the table leader, which was replaced by Saturday’s opponent from Madrid.
What’s worse, for Lewandowski and company’s team, Real is behind them. The Royals can also leapfrog Barca if they play their outstanding matches well. If both win, Real will be the new leader, ahead of Atletico and Barcelona.
