Robert Lewandowski did it again! The Pole made a special gesture
FC Barcelona successfully defeated Newcastle United in the second match of the 1/8 finals of the Champions League. Robert Lewandowski scored two goals.
The Polish striker was on the scoresheet in the second half of the match. RL9 scored 5:2 and 6:2 for the hosts, who clearly found the right rhythm in the clash with the representative of the Premier League.
Although it must be added that it was not always so perfect in the case of the Pole and his colleagues…
It is worth recalling that the stake of the two-legged match was advancement to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Pole scored the third and fourth goals in the current competition, scoring the net. The captain of the Polish national team scored two goals in the space of five minutes, striking blows that deprived their rivals from the British Isles of any illusions.
Interestingly, after both goals, Robert Lewandowski removed the protective mask from his face, which he wears after suffering an eye socket injury.
The Polish representative, playing with the number 9 on his shirt, kissed it, showing that it is certainly not easy to play with such a gadget, but RL9 can cope even in such conditions.
Overall, Lewandowski scored his 15th and 16th goal for the Pride of Catalonia this season. Coach Hansi Flick replaced the Pole in the 66th minute of the match. Lewandowski was greeted with loud applause and a standing ovation from the fans gathered in the stands of the Spanish champions’ stadium.
Barcelona won the match 7-2 and won the aggregate 8-3. Interestingly, at the end of the match, the second Pole, Wojciech Szczęsny, also appeared on the pitch. The goalkeeper had to replace the injured Joan Garcia.

It is worth recalling that Lewandowski scored as many as 109 goals in the Champions League and is the third best scorer in the history of the competition – behind the second-placed Leo Messi (129) and the leader Cristiano Ronaldo (141). It is worth noting, however, that the Argentine played 163 matches in the most prestigious UEFA club competitions, and the Portuguese as many as 187 matches. For comparison, RL9 played 141 times in the Champions League. This statistic additionally shows what scale of effectiveness we are talking about in the case of the Pole.
Lewandowski won the Champions League in the 2019/20 season with Bayern Munich. Last season, together with Barcelona, he reached the semi-finals, where Inter in Milan was better on aggregate.
