Robert Lewandowski among those appointed? Here is the list of the Polish national team
On Tuesday (May 26) noon, the Polish Football Association published the list of the Polish national football team called up for friendly matches against Ukraine and Nigeria.
The Poles will first play against Ukraine in Wrocław (Sunday, May 31) at the Tarczyński Arena, and then against Nigeria in Warsaw (Wednesday, June 3) at the PGE National Stadium.
PZPN discovered the names. What about the future of Robert Lewandowski?
As expected, despite disturbing signals immediately after the defeat in the fight for promotion to the 2026 World Cup, Robert Lewandowski did not decide to end his career in the national team.
The Polish captain, who had just said goodbye to FC Barcelona, was among those appointed by Jan Urban.
Are there any surprises? It doesn’t seem that the coach has invented a player that the fans haven’t heard of before. It is probably important that among those called up were: defender Kacper Potulski and forwards Karol Czubak and Mateusz Żukowski.
What is puzzling is the absence of Bartosz Nowak. The GKS Katowice player has had a great season in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa, but he still cannot make it to the senior team. There is a lot of competition in the second line of the Polish national team, but the fact is that friendly matches seem to be a good time to try out someone who, perhaps while fighting for e.g. qualifying points, would have less chance of playing.
Ultimately, however, it is Jan Urban who decides on the shape of the team and – it must be admitted – so far he has very rarely made mistakes in the context of selection.
