Revolution in pension contributions. Childless will pay more?

People without children or with one child can pay higher pension contributions. The Sejm will deal with the civic petition in this matter.

In February 2025, a civic petition came to the Sejm, which assumes a change in the social insurance system. Its author suggests that people over 30 who do not have children or have only one, pay higher pension contributions.

A controversial idea in the Sejm

Childless would transfer twice as much as it is today, and the parents of the only children by 50 percent. more. The exclusion would be used by sterile persons and those who lost the child – after presenting the relevant document directly in ZUS.

The justification indicated that the change was to help solve the problem of decreasing fertility and the resulting difficulties for the pension system based on solidarity. According to the author of the petition, people without children do not contribute to the creation of the future generation of taxpayers and should participate in a greater extent in financing pensions. It is estimated that thanks to such a reform, revenues to the Social Insurance Institution could increase by up to several dozen billion zlotys a year.

Pension contributions rates

Currently, the pension contribution is 19.52 percent. Calculating grounds and is divided equally between the employee and the employer. In the case of people on parental leave or using the maternity allowance, the contribution is fully covered by the state budget. Current regulations do not make her height dependent on the number of children.

The proposal went to the petition committee. At this moment, the date of the meeting has not yet been set, during which further decisions will be made. The Commission may consider taking a legislative initiative regarding a change in the amount of pension contributions depending on the family situation.
