Return to civilization. PKP will restore Poles of 14 forgotten connections

PKP Intercity

440,000 Poles will return to civilization by one official decision – they will regain rail connections with other regions of Poland. Some even after 40 years.

In the 1990s, the railway was considered unnecessary in Poland. Step by step, train routes were liquidated, forcing Poles to buy cars. After entering the European Union, it quickly turned out that the train is the most ecological, economical and most convenient means of transport to invest in.

The correctness of this vision is confirmed by statistics. In August 2025, a record number of passengers took advantage of PKP Intercity. As many as 9.5 million travelers decided on the trains of this company!

Trains return to the tracks after 20, 30 and 40 years

Such results are difficult to ignore – they can only be beaten: the infrastructure minister Dariusz Klimczak announced the restoration of railway routes for 14 Polish towns. Hybrid compositions that do not need electric traction have a chance to become a favorite means of transport of up to 3.5 million Polish inhabitants.

After 40 years, long -distance trains will return to Czaplinek and Złocieniec, after 30 years to Łomża, Chorzel or Wielbark, and after 20 – to Człuchów and Czarny. – PKP Intercity does not forget about smaller towns. Our national carrier also wants to drive where the railway, especially long -distance has not yet arrived – explained his decision, the Minister of Infrastructure, providing the specifics of the connections:

  • Warsaw – Łomża (including through Wyszków, Ostrołęka, Śniadowo);

  • Białystok – Gdynia (including through Olsztyn, Szczytno, Chorzele, Ostrołęka, Śniadowo, Łapy);

PKP Intercity has already announced a tender for loaning 22 combustion warehouses. The connections will be systematically launched along with the acceptance of 35 hybrid traction units built by Newag. The first new vehicle is to be ready at the beginning of 2027, and all will be transferred until the end of the second quarter of 2029.

PESA in Bydgoszcz is to be provided by PKP Intercity 16 hybrid locomotives, which will pull the compositions on the routes to Suwałki, Augustów, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Zielona Góra, Głogów and Leszno – said PAP.

PKP Intercity is getting ready to beat its records

The combination of hybrid and internal combustion units will allow the railway carrier to expand the timetable in places where residents currently have only one long -distance connection a day: in Świdnica, Chojnice, Czersk, and Krasnystaw.

PKP Intercity also ceased to be afraid of non -electrified lines, e.g. to Jasło, Zagórze, Kostrzyn and Gorzów Wielkopolski.

Minister Dariusz Klimczak stated that the Ministry of Infrastructure is planning to build 1000 km of new railway lines until 2035. – In 2030 we want to exceed the number of 100 million passengers transported by PKP Intercity – he added.
