Retro train with steam locomotive. This attraction in Poland costs pennies

In Poland, you can travel not only PKP Intercity and POLREGIO. Średzka Poviat Railway is a must -have attraction for fans of the historic railway.
It has only fourteen kilometers, but still attracts residents from all over the province. After all, it’s not about length, but about a unique atmosphere, which passengers of the Średzka Poviat Railway at PKP Intercity and Polregio will not find. The 120-year history of the Wielkopolska line and many historic warehouses in the rolling stock (along with steam locomotives) are impressive for travelers. We will find more such attractions in our country.
An attraction for railway lovers
Once Średzka Poviat Railway connected with Środa Wielkopolska. Today, narrow-gauge passengers can only use its 14-kilometer fragment from Środa Wlkp. On May 1, the next season of the historic railway began, which will last until September 24. However, trains only run on Sundays and only twice a day. Trips from Środa Wielkopolska take place at 10:30 and 14:30, and on the way back from Zaniemyśl the train starts at 12:30 and 16:30. During the holidays, the warehouses will also go on the tracks on Saturdays and holidays, one evening course will also be added to the decay. For now, all journeys are served with a steam locomotive, the view of which is a real attraction for passengers.
The price of a normal ticket for a one -way ride is PLN 30 (one way you have to pay 10 zlotys more). On the route, as in PKP Intercity and POLREGIO, there are statutory discounts.
Long history and historic steam locomotive
Wielkopolanie under the Prussian partition used it at the end of the 19th century and since then the rolling stock looks almost unchanged. Of course, the currently used trains are slightly newer – they usually come from the 1950s and 1960s. The oldest used wagon dates from 1929, and both steam engines used to this day – from 1951 and 1955. “Unlike other narrow -gauge railways, the Średzka queue has retained fully historic rolling stock and infrastructure, which can be admired to this day,” we read on the attraction website.
