Residents of apartment blocks receive official information about the ban on using gas cylinders in some multi-family buildings.

Tenants of multi-family buildings began to receive reminders regarding the rules of using gas. Housing cooperatives inform residents about the applicable restrictions related to the use and storage of gas cylinders.

One of such information was provided to residents by the Zakopane Housing Cooperative. It recalled that the regulations clearly specify where the use of liquefied gas cylinders is prohibited.

Tall buildings banned

Current regulations prohibit the use and storage of gas cylinders in buildings with more than four floors above ground. The restrictions apply primarily to multi-family blocks.

The reason is the safety of residents. Propane-butane is heavier than air, so in the event of a leak in the installation, the gas may accumulate on the floor and in basements. This situation may lead to fire or explosion.

You cannot combine two types of gas

The regulations also indicate that liquefied gas and network gas cannot be used at the same time in one building. This means that where there is a network gas installation, the use of LPG cylinders is unacceptable.

At the same time, in buildings higher than four stories that do not have a gas installation, residents cannot use gas cylinders either. In practice, this means the need to use electrical devices.

Electrical appliances only

In such buildings, only the following are allowed to prepare meals:

  • electric stoves,

  • induction hobs,

  • electric ovens.

Cooperatives remind that the use of other solutions may be considered a violation of applicable safety regulations.

Inspections and responsibility of residents

Tenants who ignore the gas cylinder ban may be held civilly and criminally liable for any damage or hazards. Cooperatives point out that violation of the rules may result in inspections by the Fire Brigade or the District Construction Supervision Inspectorate.

They also emphasize that the regulations are primarily intended to protect the safety of residents of the entire building. Even a minor leak in the gas installation can lead to very serious consequences.
