Replace Morskie Oko with this pond. It is equally magical and less crowded
Morskie Oko has already been considered overrated many times, but it still attracts crowds. And what if we visited the place equally beautiful, but less popular? You don’t have to go very far.
Tourists love trips to the Tatra Mountains, including Giewont or Nad Morskie Oko. Although these are beautiful places, they have their drawbacks – in the peak of the season they are so crowded that long queues are formed on the trails and it gets dangerous. To avoid this, it is worth using exceptional alternatives.
An alternative to Morskie Oko
On a holiday trip, instead of Morskie Oko, you can safely choose Popradzki Staw. He is one of the most beautiful Tatra lakes, but it is not in Poland. You will find it in Slovakia in the High Tatras, following the blue trail from the electrical railway station, the so -called Electrics – Popradské Pleso.
This is a unique place and still not as crowded as his Polish counterpart. Interestingly, the pond is located up to 100 meters higher than Morskie Oko, which in the eyes of many fans of mountains can make it even more spectacular. All this exactly at an altitude of 1494 m above sea level, among the picturesque valleys – Złomiska and the Mięguszowiecka Valley, peaks and lush vegetation. The lake itself is unique, but also the route that leads to it. Tourists can also count on many attractions in the area. The hit are, among others A hostel on Popradzki Staw, a symbolic cemetery under Otwesy, as well as surrounding peaks such as Oswerwa or the tower ridge.
Being at the pond, you can feel like in a fairytale world. There is peace, nostalgia everywhere, but we are also surrounded by majestic beauty. It is worth taking a walk around the lake, following a wide stone-stone path with a length of 1.3 km.
Travel over Popradzki Staw. It’s worth knowing
Are you wondering if this is only for advanced mountain travelers? It is worth remembering that absolutely not. Like the Morskie Oko, you will easily enter there, although you have to remember to be careful and observe weather forecasts.
If we set off from the aforementioned Popradské Pleso point, then you will reach your destination by asphalt in an hour. Importantly, this road is available not only for pedestrians, but also for cyclists. A longer and more demanding, but still pleasant trail will be this red leading from the Szczyrbski lake (Štrbské Pleso) through the Młynicka Valley – the crossing will take about 2.5 hours. Here you can count on extremely interesting views.
This Slovak place from Poland is easy to get, among others from Krakow. It is best to stop in the town of Szczyrbskie Lake.
