Renovation at a European airport. Even 3 thousand flight operations will be disrupted
At airports, tourists are sometimes surprised by strikes and sometimes renovation works. This time it’s about the latter. This is worth knowing.
Important changes are coming to Paris airport. One of the main runways will be closed, which will cause many problems for travelers. It won’t take a day, but much longer. We now know what we need to be ready for.
Difficulties at the airport in Paris
Construction works will be carried out at Paris Orly airport, the second largest airport in France. Data shows that many people regularly travel there or from there, including Poles. Wizz Air taking off from Warsaw, PLL LOT from Krakow and Transavia from Wrocław regularly land there.
The main runway is to be renovated for four months – road 06/24, 3,650 m long – which will result in disruption of up to 3,000. flight operations. According to pasazer.com, the works will include replacement of the road surface, reconstruction of the W42-W43 taxiway junction, renovation of the W47 taxiway and other technical improvements. It’s all part of a long-term plan to modernize Paris Airport.
Tourists must be careful during this time
The renovation will start on August 10, i.e. during the peak holiday season, and will last until December 17, 2026. It is during this time that the capacity of the Port of Orly will be significantly reduced.
Warns about operational risk, among others: The French Fédération Nationale de l’Aviation et de ses Métiers (FNAM) brings together organizations related to civil aviation. The air-journal.fr website reports that the airline’s flights will need to be reorganized, and some connections may be canceled, postponed or redirected.
“Airlines will have to deal with a significant number of restrictions this summer. Each of these issues requires extremely close coordination among all aviation entities and special attention from government services.” – warned Sébastien Justum, deputy secretary general of the Air France-KLM group, the holding company that owns Transavia.
The mentioned runway is the last one to undergo a major renovation in 2026, because the other two in the Orly port have already undergone renovations.
