Remember this when traveling so as not to make a mistake. Here, tipping will be perceived negatively
Do you think that leaving tips when traveling reflects well on you? Not at all in these tourist places.
Tips left in restaurants in many countries are welcome. Tourists like to leave them behind, among others. in thanks for the nice service. There are countries where we will be perceived very badly if we do this. The holiday season is upon us, so it’s worth reminding ourselves of this.
Sometimes leaving tips is a mistake
Tipping is common in Poland and our western neighbors, among others. in Germany and the Czech Republic. The situation is different in many other countries. Firstly, in many European and Asian countries, service is already included in the price, and in others, excessive generosity is considered disrespectful to waiters – they may feel as if they are receiving a handout.
We present places where it is better to refrain from offering tips. If you travel a lot, you can easily forget yourself, and no one wants to look bad in a public place
Don’t leave your money here
First, let’s take the destinations that are close to us, i.e. countries such as: Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark or Iceland. In each of them, the tip is included in the price of the service, so there is no need to add any fees. If we ask for the bill to be rounded up, we won’t get a bad reception, but no one in these places expects us to do it.
Japan is a country that is visited more and more often and is gaining popularity. There are significant restrictions on tips here, as they can quickly be perceived as a sign of disrespect. You should absolutely not leave coins or banknotes on the table. This is due to the local belief that exceptional service is the norm, not a reason to pay extra, and is included in the price.
It’s very similar in South Korea. There, tips are not expected in restaurants, hotels or taxis, and people who leave them may be misunderstood. In this country, the exception will be international hotels or companies offering transportation – then a small tip may be acceptable. If you are not sure whether to leave something, it is better to refrain.
They are also an important direction in this respect Chinawhere staff are usually prohibited from accepting tips. From time to time they are accepted in highly touristic places in Beijing or Shanghai, but it is better to be careful.
The last place on our list is Singapore. Here’s 10 percent. tip is added to the bill automatically. It is customary to leave it only in luxury hotels or for individual service.
It is worth remembering that tipping is not very popular in New Zealand or Australia.
