Refund for heat at PKP Intercity. It’s also hot in the comments
Is there any compensation for traveling in hot weather with PKP Intercity? The carrier explained what you can count on in the near future.
The heat bothers everyone, but it is much easier to endure it by a swimming pool or in an air-conditioned room than on a train or bus full of crowds and stuffiness. PKP Intercity, taking into account the inconvenience caused by high temperatures in June, introduced a special rule. It’s about refunds for tickets.
Reimbursement of costs for heatwaves at PKP Intercity
“Due to the forecast of high temperatures on days June 25-30, 2026 “We are introducing special conditions for the return of tickets purchased in advance” – these are the words that begin an important message on the Facebook page “PKP Intercity. Train to travel” addressed to passengers.
In the case of domestic journeys, the change applies to people who bought tickets for the above-mentioned dates, but want to cancel their journey due to excessive heat. During this time, they will receive a full refund, not 15%. less ticket value – this is always the refund fee. This applies to all types of tickets, including special offers, e.g. Super Promo International.
In the case of international trains, travelers who bought a ticket until June 23, 2026 (inclusive) will also receive a refund. However, this applies to travel to or from Germany and the Czech Republic for journeys between June 25-30, 2026.also in a promotional version.
PKP emphasizes that a refund is only possible in the event of cancellation of the journey. It is not possible to change the travel date to an earlier or later date. People who bought a ticket online should return it to the system where they purchased it. The refund will be made after submitting the application.
Things got heated in the comments
As you can imagine, more people would hope for greater relief from difficult conditions. Currently, in PKP Intercity trains you may encounter poorly functioning air conditioning – sometimes it is cold in one carriage and very stuffy in the other. I found this out for myself some time ago, during a long trip. This includes: Internet users point out this snag under the carrier’s online post.
“How about more compensation in the event of a complaint about the complete lack of air conditioning in the carriage? There should be no such thing, in such heat, and I travel often and such situations happen all the time lately…” – commented one of the women.
“It’s better for this period to check all the wagons for the operation of the air conditioning, change the software to lower temperatures, not max. 18 – 19 degrees”, “How good-natured PKP… And you could travel at 40 degrees without air conditioning? Not even a person will get water, not to mention the lack of a previously purchased seat”…, “Maybe just turn on the air conditioning?” – we read further.
