Raj all inclusive with another attraction. This train will be a tourist hit

Pociąg Lézard Rouge w Tunezji

After eight years, a “red lizard” will go on the tracks again. This train is a cult attraction of Tunisian loved by Poles.

The Lézard Rouge train, or “red lizard” is one of the largest, forgotten attractions of Tunisia. The red composition went on the track for the last time eight years ago. Unfortunately, heavy rains then destroyed the infrastructure that was only repaired this spring. Now tourists and residents can book a crossing of the desert for the equivalent of around 10 euros – at the same price they have both a third class and a “royal” wagon.

“Red lizard” again in Tunisia

Desert landscapes straight from the windows of the train? Now it is possible and in one of the favorite holiday countries of Poles. In Tuunesia, where our tourists often enjoy the charms of All Inclusive, this spring was launched by the Lézard Rouge train. “Red lizard”, because this is the Polish translation of the name of this composition, glides on the tracks between the towns of Metlaoui and Redeyef, passing along the way through the spectacular Selja gorges. Although the journey of a historic rail, originally used to transport phosphates, lasts only 40 minutes, for many it will be an unforgettable experience.

This is the first such opportunity since 2017, when the tracks were destroyed by heavy rains. “On December 3, 2024, the Minister of Tourism of Tunisia Soufiane Tekaya announced the completion of modernization works and the soon return of Lézard Rouge. The inaugural course of the restored train after the reconstructed line took place on May 13, 2025.” – writes the railway market.

Tickets cost only 10 euros

“Red lizard” leaves from Metlaoui once a day, at 10:30. The very price of the journey, which in Tunisian dinars, is equivalent to the equivalent of around 10 euros. For this price we can admire the famous red desert cliffs from anywhere on the train. “The ticket price does not specify the wagon class, so for 10 euros you can both travel on wooden benches in the 3rd class and enjoy luxuries in the royal wagon,” reads.
