Quantum dot in the middle of our homes? The popularity of this technology is growing

Technologia kropki kwantowej obecna jest już w 39 proc. domów

The most popular TV models last year were those in which quantum dot technology was used.

Quantum dots act as a filter that allows you to increase the intensity of colors while maintaining a high level of brightness. They find their application, among others in biochemistry, medicine, as well as on the market of modern TVs and monitors. The screens thanks to them are able to better reflect the colors in the displayed content, and also shine brighter.

Studies confirm the growing popularity of the dot

– The popularity of TV models with a quantum dot will grow. While last year according to GFK data they were found in 39% of TVs bought in Poland, according to our estimation in 2025 they will constitute at least 50% of the market – believes Grzegorz Stanisz, Chief of Sales and Marketing of the Samsung Polska RTV Division.

Considering the entire market, according to GFK, in the first four of the most -bought TVs in Poland were – last year – only those using quantum dot technology. Interestingly, all of them were designed by Samsung. In total, the TOP 10 has five QLED and Neo OLED TVs that use this technology.

For the fact that the market with quantum dot technology will grow Improved technology, which, together with other solutions, brings for samsung neo qled and QLED benefits related to the excellent image quality, and especially color saturation, tonal transitions, contrast and black and black, speaks. Grzegorz Stanisz.

The uniqueness of innovative technology was appreciated in 2023 by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences by awarding the Nobel Prize in the field of chemistry to three scientists working in the US for discovering the smallest particles in nanotechnology, i.e. quantum dots. This fact confirms the breakthrough of this innovative technology in various areas of modern industry.

Long history of the quantum dot on TVs

Samsung used quantum dot technology for the first time in 2017 in a series of Samsung QLED TVs. Then the brightness and stability of the light was improved, and the range of color reproduction was expanded. By using new metallic quantum dots, televisions in this series have set standards in the field of image quality, viewing angles, color intensity, brightness and contrast. One of the distinguishes, which is still a showcase of the Samsung QLED series is 100% color intensity, regardless of the level of image brightness. In practice, this means that viewers can count on over a billion shades of colors.

In 2021, the company introduced a new generation of televisions with a quantum dot – Neo QLED. A new, miniaturized light source has appeared in them. Neo QLED TVs, instead of ordinary LEDs for backlight, use mini LED LEDs. Thanks to this, the precision of the screen backlight was significantly increased. Therefore, the quality of details increased and brightness control, contrast and real, deep black control were improved.

Somehow the picture confirmed by certificates

These innovative image quality solutions, thanks to which we get excellent colors, have been confirmed by certificates. Seven Samsung TV models from the NEO QLED and QLED line from 2024 and two models from 2023 were the first in the industry to receive TRUE Cinema Black and HDR Brightness Accuracy certificates from the leading German Institute of Electrical Certification Verband Deutscher Elektrotechnik (VDE).

It is certification based on a rigorous assessment of black levels in the Letterbox area of the screen, i.e. in the technique of adapting video in a panoramic image format for use on a standard screen. This guarantees that these areas will remain full of depth while watching the official ASC (American Society of Cinematograph) materials, i.e. in accordance with the guidelines of the Association of Video Electronics Standards (VESA®). The excellent efficiency of local quenching eliminates unwanted light interference, enabling viewers to watch movies according to their intentions – with deep black and live details comparable to cinema sensations.

Quantum dots are ecological and safe for health

It is also worth emphasizing that quantum dots used in Samsung TVs do not contain cadmium – so they are not only harmless to the environment, but also safe for human health. In addition, Smart TVs belonging to this company are equipped with multi -layered protection of their devices, called Samsung Knox technology.

KNOX primarily covers all applications launched, among others On TVs – including those that are used to play video content. Before providing other users, each application undergoes a strict certification process. The system also cares about the security of authorization and payment applications, and all sensitive data is stored in isolated, physically protected areas of integrated circuits, protected against potential attacks.
