PZPN is preparing a revolution! This can upend sports competition
More Poles in league competitions in PKO BP Ekstraklasa and Betclic 1. Liga? It may turn out that this scenario will soon become very real.
The Polish Football Association is preparing a revolutionary idea that will respond to the expectations of supporters of playing with Polish players on domestic pitches. And this is at its best, because the matter will concern the two highest levels in Poland – PKO BP Ekstraklasa and Betclic 1. Liga.
PZPN with the great revolution of Polish football! This could be a breakthrough moment
What exactly is going to happen? For now, these are just media reports, but it seems that there may actually be something to it.
“According to the assumptions of the new project, Poles will have to appear in the match squads. I hear about the obligation to have up to 8-10 players with a Polish passport in a 20-person squad. Today there will be a meeting and talks with the Ekstraklasa and 1st league authorities, and on May 14, the project will be put to a vote by the PZPN board. Currently, the only requirement in the two highest leagues is a youth player in the 1st league. The association’s initiative is apparently support of the Minister of Sport, Jakub Rutnicki,” wrote Adam Sławiński, a journalist at Channel Sportowy, on the X website.
So, are president Cezary Kulesza and the entire federation ready for a reform that could shake up the competitions in the country? It is no secret that in the case of some clubs, the foundation are players who do not have Polish passports. And if there were 8-10 Poles in the team of 20 players, there could indeed be a big reshuffle.
On the one hand, it may be an opportunity for young players who may have a chance to make a bigger impact in clubs from the best leagues in the country. Although there are also entries about… lowering the level of competitions if the flow of foreign players is suddenly limited due to the above-mentioned limits.
Either way, if the Polish Football Association, headed by president Kulesza, were to actually decide on such a move, it could have really big consequences in some places in Poland.
