Pyrotechnicians at the airport in Łódź. Reason “dangerous fruit”

Employees noticed a mysterious package in the Łódź airport terminal. There was no other option than to call pyrotechnicians to the scene. It turned out that it was unnecessary.

The pre-Christmas period is a hot and stressful time for service workers. The deadlines are especially tight for couriers, who have even more parcels to deliver than usual. This time, the airport in Łódź appealed to them.

Mysterious package at the airport. The services arrived at the scene

On Thursday morning, one of the couriers did not find the recipient of the parcel at the indicated place at the Łódź airport. When an employee noticed an unattended package, he had no choice but to initiate procedures similar to those used in the case of a planted explosive device. Pyrotechnicians, firefighters and the Emergency Medical Service arrived at the scene. The airport area was cordoned off and contents were checked. The inconspicuous white cardboard was X-rayed by a pyrotechnician in a special outfit.

There was nothing dangerous in the package – only fruit and sweets, which were probably a Christmas gift.

Burdensome procedures for a trivial reason. This was also the case in Warsaw

Employees reminded that this situation creates many problems. “We know that you have a lot of work before Christmas, you are in a hurry and often leave parcels at the door when the recipient is not there, but NEVER do it at airports! Leaving a parcel in the terminal triggers an alarm and the services are called,” the Regional Airports wrote in a post on Facebook.

Calling the services also involves costs. It is possible that the courier may face consequences. A passenger or courier who leaves a parcel unattended at the airport may pay a fine of up to PLN 500. Two years ago, a parcel at Chopin Airport caused similar problems. Officers from the Warsaw-Okęcie Border Guard Station had to conduct mining and pyrotechnic reconnaissance. Approximately 400 people were evacuated as part of the procedures. Fortunately, this did not cause any delays in air traffic.
