Procession of Polish national team fans in Kaunas. Alarming signals

Kibice reprezentacji Polski

On Sunday evening (i.e. October 12) the Polish national team will play away against Lithuania as part of the World Cup qualifiers. Polish fans showed up in Kaunas in a strong group.

For several days, there has been information in the media regarding the number of fans of the Polish national team who were supposed to appear – and actually appeared – in a group estimated at 4,000-5,000 people.

Procession of fans of the Polish national team. Lithuanians on alert

Before the purely sports competition began, Polish football fans decided to organize a joint march through the streets of Kaunas, towards the stadium where the match will take place.

The security and uniformed services from the Lithuanian side, remembering the events from years ago with the participation of Polish fans (for example, 2011, in the same Kaunas), sent alarming signals towards full readiness to host and secure the Saturday-Sunday hospitality of people from Poland. To sum up, Polish fans will occupy 1/3 of the stadium’s capacity on Sunday evening. It is therefore not surprising that Lithuanians have some concerns about the strength of the visiting group.

Just over an hour before the start of the match, there was no information that Polish fans were causing any major, negative “commotion” on the streets of Kaunas. We can only hope that the march will take place in a positive atmosphere. And the most important thing at the end will be typical sports emotions.
