Problems for the Polish champions at the airport. The plane did not take off in the end!
Lech Poznań players did not go to the return match of the Europa League qualifiers in the Faroe Islands. Reason? No admission consent from Torshavn airport.
On Wednesday (i.e. August 12) at 2:30 p.m., the plane with the Lech Poznań team was to take off from the Poznań-Ławica airport towards Vagar Airport in Torshavn for the match against KI Klaksvik.
Unfortunately, the plane did not ultimately depart from Poznań. Reason?
“There is heavy fog over the Vagar airport and it is possible that the flight will be moved to tomorrow morning. There are no decisions regarding the postponement of the match yet,” representatives of the Polish champions informed on social media.
Ultimately, it was decided that the flight was moved to tomorrow (i.e. August 13), at 8:00 a.m.
For now, the match is scheduled to start on the original date, i.e. several dozen hours later, i.e. at 7:30 p.m. Polish time.
Lech Poznań will not fly to the Faroe Islands? An unusual situation for the Polish champions
Let us recall that the Polish champions’ players said goodbye to the Champions League qualifiers in a compromising style. Kolejorz, in a way known only to itself, after winning 4:1 away against the Danish AGF Aarhus (second qualifying round) – lost such a significant advance on home soil in the rematch. What’s worse, the Poznań team ultimately lost the penalty shootout, thus ruining their hopes of participating in the Champions League.
In Poznań, as a consolation, there was still playing – either in the Europa League or the Conference League.
After being eliminated by the Danes, the Polish champions went to the qualifying rounds of the Europa League. This is the second most important UEFA club competition. In the third round of qualifying, Kolejorz faced KI Klaksvik. The club from the Faroe Islands in Poznań showed character, losing only 0:1.
When will the Polish champions defend their one-goal advantage in the second leg? For now, there is the option of traveling on the day of the match and meeting on Thursday. If this ultimately does not happen, there are backup options – such as playing the match next Friday or Saturday.
