President Nawrocki omitted an outstanding sportsman. “There was an opinion that he had committed a faux pas”

Karol Nawrocki

President Karol Nawrocki solemnly summarized the performance of Polish Olympians at the Games in Milan. However, Sport.pl journalists drew attention to his stumble.

On Saturday, April 11, at the headquarters of the Polish Olympic Committee in Warsaw, a ceremonial summary of the Poles’ performance at the Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo 2026 Olympic Games took place. The event was honored with the reading of a letter from President Karol Nawrocki, in which he congratulated the athletes.

Nawrocki wrote to the Olympic athletes. He left out Stoch

“I warmly greet the entire Olympic family. I would like to express my appreciation and congratulations to the activists, coaches, members of the training staff and, above all, to the players who represented Poland with dignity at the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Thank you for the effort of preparation, countless hours of training and the emotions that you provided to your compatriots in sports arenas in February this year,” wrote the politician.

After remembering the words of St. Augustine about fighting and winning, referred to the history of Polish victories. “From the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and Adam Małysz’s two medals, through Justyna Kowalczyk’s triumphs and the successes of our skaters, to the laurels won in Beijing and now in Italy, Polish winter sport regularly provides reasons to be proud. I trust that there will be even more successes in the future,” he enumerated.

“I express my highest appreciation to the medalists. The ski jumpers brought great joy to Polish fans. This is the sixth time at the Games in the 21st century. Kacper Tomasiak’s two individual medals and the third one won together with Paweł Wąsek in the first historic duet competition are a great achievement. Just like the silver won by Vladimir Semirunnij, who thus increased the Olympic achievements of our ski jumpers to seven medals,” he pointed out Nawrocki.

He also appreciated those who, although they did not win medals, but came close to the podium or distinguished themselves with their sportsmanship. “I would like to thank all Olympians for representing our homeland with dignity. I wish the athletes inexhaustible motivation to train and exceed their own limits, the coaches satisfaction with their work and the achievements of their students, and the activists numerous organizational successes. May Polish winter sport bring a lot of joy to our compatriots in the coming years. All the best,” he concluded his letter.

Nawrocki’s mistake? “Faux pas”

Sport.pl journalists assessed the president’s words as “elegant” and “interesting”, but immediately noted that one important name was not mentioned in the letter. “It is very surprising that when writing about the medal streak of our winter Olympians, Nawrocki mentioned Adam Małysz and Justyna Kowalczyk, and omitted Kamil Stoch,” we read in Łukasz Jachimiak’s comment.

It was emphasized that Stoch is the most successful Polish Winter Olympian. His three gold medals and one bronze place him even higher than the above-mentioned Justyna Kowalczyk or Adam Małysz. It was noted that only three months ago the president participated in Kamil Stoch’s farewell.

“We don’t know why the president forgot about Stoch. But we know that the opinion was spread around the room that Nawrocki had committed a faux pas,” we read.
