Possible changes to the “Mój prąd” program this fall

The autumn edition of the “Mój prąd” program may feature a novelty: the condition for granting the subsidy may be the simultaneous installation of an energy storage device along with photovoltaic panels. – In the new program, we are aiming to make energy storage mandatory, from the set date of connection of the photovoltaic installation and energy storage device – admitted the head of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in June.

Until now, subsidies from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management could be obtained for the PV installation itself or in connection with additional elements such as an energy storage or an energy management system. The more elements the investment contained, the higher the support from the Fund, up to PLN 58,000.

“My Electricity”: Will energy storage facilities be mandatory?

The money.pl and WNP websites inform that the rules for granting subsidies may soon be significantly changed and will require linking photovoltaic panels to the purchase of energy storage.

At the beginning of June, the head of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, Dorota Zawadzka-Stępniak, admitted that the institution she manages would like to popularize energy storage, and this would be achieved by linking the PV subsidy with the simultaneous installation of a storage facility.

She added that in the new edition of “Moje prąd” PLN 400 million will be allocated. So far, PLN 2.6 billion has been transferred to beneficiaries. In the last edition of the program, the following were submitted: over 88.5 thousand applications for subsidies for the purchase of photovoltaic panels, 4.1 thousand applications for energy management systems; over 5.4 thousand for heat storage facilities; nearly 10 thousand applications for energy storage facilities; over 15.7 thousand for the purchase of a heat pump and 163 applications for subsidies for solar collectors.

What is energy storage?

According to WNP’s findings, interest in energy storage is slowly but steadily growing. – Every month, we install about 150-200 home batteries for our customers. Already 4 out of 10 of our customers have an installation equipped with an energy storage. We expect that the new edition of the Mój Prąd program will improve these statistics even more – admitted Kamil Sankowski, a member of the board of Polenergia Fotowoltaika, in an interview with wnp.pl.

An energy storage device is a device used to store energy, in this case electricity produced in excess and not used. Energy storage devices can be used multiple times – charged with electric current and discharged. However, it should be remembered that these devices have a maximum lifespan, which depends on, among other things, the construction of the electrodes and the composition of the electrolyte used to store energy, as well as the method of use.
