Positive changes at Pendolino. “This was what passengers expected”

Pociąg Pendolino

Traveling by the Pendolino high-speed train will be better than before. You don’t have to worry anymore if you don’t have time to buy a ticket in advance. There are new rules.

Passengers have been waiting for such changes for a long time. Many of them complained that if they get on a train without a ticket and want to buy it at the last minute, they have to pay a lot extra. Sometimes it was even PLN 750. Although everything seemed absurd, some people had no choice but to agree to a more expensive trip. Now at Pendolino you will no longer need to book seats in advance.

“This was what passengers expected. It’s a pity that after 10 years,” wrote Janusz Malinowski, a railway activist and president of PKP Intercity, on the X platform.

Changes in Pendolino

Pendolino trains are nothing else than the famous Express Intercity Premium. Thanks to them, a trip from one end of Poland to the other does not have to take half a day. For example, we can get from Warsaw to Gdańsk in up to 2 hours. We are going at a similar pace from Warsaw, for example to the capital of Lesser Poland.

Now travelers using the services of these trains will have it even easier. Those who will benefit primarily from those who decide to travel at the last minute or simply do not have time to buy a ticket in advance. Now all you need to do is approach the conductor and ask for a seat without any problems. After all, it will cost the same as at a traditional cash register.

PKP sets a condition

The new rule applies from Monday, October 15. Although the carrier tries to help travelers, it sets one condition. We will get the ticket on the platform, just before departure, if there are free seats in the carriages. It is not possible to purchase seats without a seat guarantee. You must register your intention to travel before boarding. The additional fee for the ticket will be only PLN 20.

Specific moves were required to make everything work. “The conductor teams had to be equipped with software showing the occupancy status of seats on the train,” said Janusz Malinowski.

PKP representatives noted that the aim was to make passengers more comfortable. They will benefit, among others: those going to Bielsko-Biała, Wrocław, Kraków, Rzeszów, Katowice, Gliwice, Warsaw, Tricity or Kołobrzeg. Pendolino has a lot of connections in its network and has been running fast trains every day since 2014. Now the company is hoping for a record record. It is expected that approximately 80 million travelers will use its services in 2024.
