Portugal’s most popular resort is making changes. There are penalties for these behaviors

Albufeira w październiku

A famous European resort introduces high fines for tourists. This will no longer be possible on beaches.

The Algarve region is, next to Lisbon, the most touristic part of Portugal. In the heart of the sunny coast is Albufeira – once a small fishing town, and today a noisy, party resort full of fun-seeking tourists from Great Britain, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands. The constantly growing number of foreign guests has become a threat to the quality of life of residents. Recently, it was decided to introduce a number of prohibitions and penalties for non-compliance. Some restrictions apply to beaches.

Fines for tourists in Albufeira

The effects of the mass influx of tourists to the south of Portugal are disastrous for the inhabitants of the region. The most popular resort in the country, Albufeira, has recently introduced strict restrictions for tourists, providing for fines ranging from 150 to even 1,800 euros. What can you get a fine for? The offenses include, among others: barbecuing on public beaches, drinking alcohol in places not designated for this purpose and disturbing the peace. In order to warn tourists about the new regulations, information on applicable penalties has been posted in the most frequently visited places and hotels.

A place not only for party people

The actions taken by the local government are the first step to change the perception of Albufeira as a destination only for partygoers. The Portuguese town also wants to be seen as a friendly place for parents with children.

The code of conduct in force in Albufeira also prohibits wearing swimsuits outside the beaches. This solution is now being introduced by an increasing number of European resorts, where until recently, half-naked tourists in restaurant gardens did not impress anyone. Today, fines for such behavior may include, among others: in resorts in France and Spain.
