Polish women’s matches in the US Open at risk. Madness in New York!
The US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament is being played with problems. In New York, the organizers have problems mainly with rainfall.
However, it must be admitted that this is not a special surprise, considering the history of the tournament in New York. On Tuesday (i.e. September 1), matches took place only in the main, covered arenas: Arthur Ashe Stadium and the tennis court. Louis Armstrong. The remaining arenas were mainly flooded due to heavy rainfall…
What about Polish women’s matches in New York? Crazy conditions at the US Open!
The weather was unlucky for, among others, Magdalena Fręch and Magda Linette. Both Poles tried to play their matches, but ultimately the real chances (according to the organizers’ announcements) will appear only during Wednesday’s (i.e. September 2) sessions. Many Tuesday matches started with a delay of several hours, and some were simply canceled and postponed. Exactly as in the case of Linette and Fręch’s meetings.
The player from Łódź will start the match with the American Iva Jović, who was stopped at 4:4 in the first set. Linette played a little longer, considering the result, but the tennis player from Poznań will have something to make up for. After the first set, the Pole lost to the British Francesca Jones 4:6.
Two Polish singles players are also scheduled to appear on the courts in NYC on Wednesday: Hubert Hurkacz and Kamil Majchrzak. The Wrocław native will play against one of the hosts’ favorites, Ben Shelton. Majchrzak will face a fight with Monegasque Valentin Vacherot. Interestingly, the men will play matches in the second round, and Fręch and Linette will play first round matches.
US Open 2026: Where and when to watch the tournament in New York?
The competition in New York traditionally closes the Grand Slam part of the WTA and ATP calendar. It is worth recalling that the trophies for victories in the US Open 2025 are held by Aryna Sabalenka among the women and Carlos Alcaraz among the men.
The Spaniard managed to recover just in time for the competition in NYC, having previously taken a long break due to an injury and then regained full fitness. Alcaraz bypassed, among others, Grand Slam tournaments in Paris (Roland Garros) and London (Wimbledon). On the other hand, during the US Open 2026, the Spaniard’s biggest rival and current leader of the ATP ranking – Jannik Sinner – was absent. Health issues also resulted in the Italian’s absence.
It is worth adding that in 2022 the best among women was Iga Świątek. The Pole has already won six Grand Slam titles. In addition to the above-mentioned victory in New York, there are four more triumphs in Paris and one in Wimbledon. The only thing the Pole needs to achieve her career Grand Slam is a triumph at the Australian Open.
Broadcasts from the US Open are available on Eurosport channels and online, among others. on the HBO Max, Player and Polsat Sport Box platforms.
