The Polish Armaments Group plans to significantly increase the production of Piorun portable anti-aircraft missile systems, which have become one of the greatest successes of the Polish defense industry. Piorun sets, manufactured by Mesko from the PGZ group in Skarżysko-Kamienna, have gained recognition thanks to their effectiveness, mobility and reliability. It is a portable weapon, operated by one soldier, capable of combating air targets, including: helicopters and drones – at a distance of up to six kilometers. Their effectiveness was confirmed on the battlefield in Ukraine, which resulted in an increase in the number of foreign orders.

The countries that decided to purchase Polish sets include: Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Moldova and the United States. In September, Sweden also joined the group of clients and signed a contract worth approximately PLN 1.2 billion. According to the daily, the contract covers the purchase of at least several hundred rockets and launchers. Deliveries to the Swedish army are scheduled for 2027.

Increasing production

However, the largest recipient remains the Polish Army. The national armed forces ordered 3.5 thousand. missiles and about 600 launchers, which makes this project one of the priorities in modernization plans. Production of Pioruns began in 2019 – then approximately 300 pieces were produced per year. Today, the scale of production reaches 1.3 thousand, and PGZ announces further dynamic growth.

“We plan to at least double the current production within a few years,” announced Jacek Matuszak, head of the PGZ communications department. According to unofficial information, the planned period of achieving the goal is three to four years.

The increase in production capacity is intended to strengthen Poland’s position as one of the key suppliers of modern defense systems in Europe. Piorun sets, developed by the domestic industry, have become a symbol of the effectiveness and quality of Polish military technology, valued by both allies and commercial recipients.
