Polish volleyball players meet their rivals at the World Championships! This will be a unique event
The Polish national team already knows its opponents at next year’s World Volleyball Championship. The draw took place in Manila.
Let us recall that the Poles are defending the silver medals of the World Championships, which they won during the last such event, organized in Poland and Slovenia. The gold went to the Italians, who defeated the co-hosts 3:1 in Spodek in Katowice. The bronze medals went to the Brazilians, who defeated Slovenia 3:1.
It is also worth adding that for the first time in history the international organisation has increased the number of teams taking part in the main tournament to 32 teams.
2024 Men’s Volleyball World Championship: Who will the Polish national team face?
Due to the seeding, it was known before the draw that the Poles would avoid playing in groups with the Olympic champions and bronze medalists, the French and Americans, the defending champions of the 2022 World Cup, Italy, or the Slovenians, who are not comfortable in the competition.
The Olympic vice-champions have been drawn into Group B, where they will play against: Romania, Qatar and from the strongest group – the Netherlands. It must therefore be openly stated that this is a favourable draw for the team of coach Nikola Grbić. The Dutch, even if in high form, are definitely within the reach of the Polish team. The competition with the stronger ones will begin after the group stage, as is usually the case when such a large number of teams participate in the tournament.
It seems, however, that the Philippines will take care of the appropriate setting for the shows. Volleyball is definitely on the rise in this part of the world.
The tournament in the Philippines will be held from September 12 to 28, 2025.
In the history of the World Championships, Polish volleyball players have won five medals. Three gold (1974, 2014 and 2018) and two silver (2006 and 2022). The Polish national team has also hosted a World Championship event twice. It happened in 2014 and 2022. The next opportunity will be in three years. It is known that Poland will host the 2027 World Championships.
