Polish volleyball players make surprising decision before opening ceremony: "We have to stay focused"

It’s certain now. Polish volleyball players will not take part in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. We know how Nikola Grbić explained this decision.

The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games is always a great event for athletes, which remains in their memories for a long time. During the start of the event, there are always exceptional, spectacular scenes that cannot be seen anywhere else. Some are waiting impatiently for the ceremony, while others do not want to take part in it. Polish volleyball players are among them. They were persuaded to do so by coach Nikola Grbić.

Grbić explains the decision

The Serbian coach admitted that during the opening ceremony he takes into account the fact that the event will be long. In the meantime, the volleyball players need proper regeneration before the match with Egypt.

– We’re playing the day after the opening ceremony. I think this event will be very, very long. If we wanted to take part in it, we would have to be ready in the village by 3:45 p.m. The event itself could end for us at 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. – explains the Serb in an interview with sport.tvp.pl.

– We play a match the next day. We know that neither Brazil nor Italy will be at the ceremony. I understand that this event is very interesting, but we are here to play volleyball and make a good result for the entire discipline in Poland. So we have to be focused and do everything to be effective – he added.

Volleyball players at a different pole

In contrast to the men’s team, our volleyball players are expected to appear at the opening ceremony. Here, it must be admitted that they are in a better position than the men. This is because they will be inaugurating their performance at the games on Sunday.

As for the opening of the quadrennial event, it is set to be one of the most spectacular in history. The new thing is that it will not take place in a stadium. The event has been moved to the Seine River. It is estimated that around 300,000 fans will watch the ceremony in Paris.
