Polish sport in mourning. The former coach of the Polish national team has passed away

Very sad news from the volleyball world. Artur Wójcik, a distinguished trainer mainly associated with Warsaw women’s volleyball, has died.

Tragic news about Artur Wójcik’s death came on Sunday morning (i.e. December 15). The coach’s departure was announced, among others, by: via the official website of the Polish Volleyball Association.

Wójcik’s death is a surprise, last weekend the coach was leading the AZS AWF Warszawa volleyball team in the second league. Additionally, he was an active trainer of Varsovia’s youth teams.

In total, during his coaching career, Wójcik won seven medals at the Polish youth championships. Apart from the mentioned clubs, he worked, among others, in MOS Wola Warszawa and UKS Atena Warszawa. He also led the Polish youth national teams, and with the U16 team he took sixth place at the European Championships in 2021.

“Coach Artur Wójcik has been associated with our club for many years. By sacrificing himself for us, he achieved common successes with us. This season, he took over as the first coach, where the main goal was to play talented young people, whom he had been educating for years in many Warsaw clubs. Artur Wójcik was one of the most successful youth coaches in Poland, he raised many players currently playing in the Tauron Liga, he also led the Polish Youth Team for girls. This is a great loss for local, but also for Polish volleyball… We express our sincere condolences to the coach’s family and loved ones. Coach… the coach left a great void behind him, which cannot be filled… In our hearts, the coach will be with us in every point, match, medal won… See you…” – we read in a moving entry posted on the profile of the AZS AWF volleyball players Warsaw.

His players, according to the official website of the Polish Football Association, included, for example, national volleyball players and league players known from the league: Malwina Smarzek, Adriana Adamek and Paulina Bałdyga. Wójcik was also the coach of the Polish youth national team. He played with the U-16 national team, for example, at the European Championship in 2021.

Artur Wójcik died at the age of 48.
