“Polish Hawaii” less than two hours from Gdańsk. This swimming area attracts crowds

Poles do not stop searching for the exotic. City authorities like to compare their facilities to well-known European or even global tourist hits. It was no different in Wąbrzeźno, where the renovated summer swimming pool was called “Polish Hawaii”. In this case, palm trees, a sandy beach and a gentle descent to clean water were enough. Even though there are no waves or ocean here, it doesn’t bother tourists at all. During the season, this free beach is full of guests every day.

“Polish Hawaii” attracts tourists to Wąbrzeźno

In 2019, the beach in Wąbrężno underwent a significant metamorphosis. A 100-meter section of the lake shore turned into a landscape rarely seen in Polish resorts. Now, as the regional portal Oto Toruń writes, sunbathers lie here under palm trees and reed umbrellas. There is also a pier, a paddling pool for children and a catering point. There is a kayak and water bike rental service, encouraging guests to explore Castle Lake. “We are proud that our city – hailed by the media as “Polish Hawaii” – shows its paradise potential to the entire region. We prove that exoticism, a beach with real palm trees, three picturesque lakes and entertainment without crowds are at your fingertips – just 40 km from Toruń,” says Tomasz Zygnarowski, mayor of Wąbrzeźno.

Everything is free on the beach

Best of all, there is no charge for access to the beach. But that’s not all. You don’t even have to pay to rent deckchairs, kayaks, pedal boats and sailboats.

We can get here from Gdańsk in less than two hours. Drivers from Warsaw need about three hours, and those from Poznań – about two and a half hours. However, it cannot be denied that Wąbrzęźno is primarily a local attraction, aimed at the inhabitants of nearby towns and villages in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
