Polish coach thunders in defense of Nowicki. “Everyone is hanging dogs on him”
Wojciech Nowicki did not defend the Olympic championship he won in Tokyo. In Paris, the Pole finished the hammer throw competition in fifth place. After the competition, the hammer thrower’s coach revealed what, in her opinion, contributed to the weaker result.
Polish hammer throw has been at the highest level for years. Three years ago in Tokyo, medals were won by Wojciech Nowicki, Anita Włodarczyk (both gold), Paweł Fajdek and Malwina Kopron (both bronze), which is why fans could feel spoiled. This time, only Włodarczyk has a chance at the medal (Kopron did not qualify for Tuesday’s competition), although her result in the qualifications is not encouraging either. In the men’s competition, fans had to be content with Fajdek’s fifth place and Nowicki’s seventh.
Wojciech Nowicki’s coach reacts strongly to internet users’ comments
While Fajdek considers the start to be decent, Nowicki is very disappointed with the result after a weak competition. He felt that he had let himself down, apologizing to the fans after the competition had ended. After the start, there was no shortage of critical comments directed at him and Joanna Fiodorow, the coach of the competitor from Podlasie.
The former hammer thrower, who took over Nowicki’s training after the Tokyo Olympics, reacted strongly to the news criticizing her and the 35-year-old’s work. In an interview with WP SportoweFakty, she stated that Poles have become accustomed to her competitor’s constant successes. These may soon end, as both he and Fajdek increasingly have to give way to younger rivals.
– It’s nice to get used to the fact that a guy brings home a medal from every event, and when he doesn’t, everyone gives him the cold shoulder, that Nowicki is finished – said Fiodorow. – I’ve read some comments and there are many people who say that he chose the wrong coach, that everything is f**ked up. That’s how it is – added the coach, who successfully competed on the international stage years ago.
Anita Włodarczyk will fight for a medal in hammer throw
The women’s hammer throw competition will take place on Tuesday, August 6 at 7:55 p.m.
